I personally have tried using XPadder with my own config. The old free version doesn't let you download profiles but is perfectly usable none the less. In fact it's a little more controllable with a gamepad as the keybindings aren't so hard on your fingers.
I tried it and the game essentially has controller support with it.
Also a word of warning to people interested in it, it doesn't have much available documentation and no readme file. Aside from update notes.
AFAIK Two Worlds II has native controller support.
I went with XPadder mostly because I already use it for existing PC games. I have younger kids who prefer the "console" experience a pad gives, plus I myself just prefer the pad now. I was a staunch keys/mouse gamer but using a keyboard all day long and then using one at home as well is just too much like torture. Here's hoping the new Steam pad they're on about can effectively marry the two control schemes into something special.
I can't seem to get any Item/Weapon Merging to work. There just doesn't seem to be a way to highlight items and combine them using button presses.
With a mouse you simply "drag and drop" items or weapon mods to combine them together, but for the life of me I can't get it to work via the Xbox Controller app on the TWCP. Google searches don't seem to help either.
It's a pity because in all other respects the TWCP is great work. I'm using it (without the Xbox pad activated) and then running XPadder as well, to emulate mouse movement. Hopefully I'll come up with a better system.
Just press Y on your controller.
As simple as that. Highlight the object you want - press the yellow button on your pad and options will appear including Combine and Drop. Press the Blue X button and you can combine away!
Also, pressing the BACK button on your pad brings up a helpful(ish) mini menu that lets you know what the various buttons do. It's fiddly, but in my opinion the game is actually a LOT better played via pad.
