I really, really want to enjoy this game, so much that I refunded it and then purchased it again because I regretted not having it.

I do have fun, sometimes.

The game just crashes so much that sometimes I'll go to play and I'll reload the game and reload the server a good 3-5 times and keep crashing and then I just give up and play a game that doesn't do that.

I can't really give this a positive review yet.

When Arma Reforger originally came out, it was nothing more than a tech demo. A literal stepping stone for what will eventually become Arma 4.

Now, it is more or less the same, but after a year and then some, the modders have come full force.

Of course, the highlight is the Ukraine war mods and servers. Effectively being a better, albeit far more unstable, version of Squad and Hell Let Loose.

While most of the gameplay, as per Arma, is still playing dress up, driving to the objective and then having a 2 to 3 minute firefight makes the entire experience worth it.

Not necessarily the most English-friendly game if you are hoping to play the Ukraine servers, but you should be fine as long as you kit yourself up appropriately and tag along with groups of randoms. Otherwise, coordinating via in game comms or discord is a must.

Still no single player content or scenarios as of yet, but truthfully, Reforger was never meant to be a sandbox for that just yet. It is more milsim game than a game that is a milsim first and foremost like Arma 3, but it sits pleasantly in the realm of fun like the original Arma 2 campaign and generally, its extremely easy to waste a few hours a day in its PvP game modes.

Some fun memories already include:
-Spawning as a Russian conscript and getting picked up by a guy in a UAZ hotmiccing hard bass and aggressive phonk
-Several Russian operators engaging numerous Ukrainian regulars along a highway, resulting in a prolonged sniper battle between ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with 74s
-Prolonged urban combat between losers with more grenades than rifle magazines
-Spawn on Ukrainian ally, walk across field into a base that was NOT friendly. Overhear some 14 year olds conversing among themselves in Russian, sneeki breeki through the bushes and open a door - immediately shot point blank with .50 caliber rifle from someone laying prone in the hallway stairs
-Simple mission, right? All we have to do is take this school in the woods. Just a shame the Ukrainians are launching air assaults, have snipers in the woodline and a seemingly infinite number of small ordinance to lob through the windows. But don't worry, everyone and their distant uncle is decked out like Alfa going into the Beslan school during the siege and brother, no one is going to leave this building alive. Especially not us.
-Roughly 50 v 50 engagement between squads of tacticool operators decays into autorifleman fighting for fire supremacy as everyone starts running PKMs and RPKs. Entire buildings being completely peppered with lead, consistent action taking place everywhere but the objective.
-Spawn on ally, beside vehicle in scrapyard. Immediately shot. Concussed, but survive. Crawl under truck. Bandage all four of my limbs and inject morphine while people keep spawning in and immediately get schwacked. Someone throws down smoke and I brace for engagement. Interestingly, the truck suddenly moves and I scramble out. Our newly uninvited guest driver hops out and starts looking for me as I duck back around the vehicle. Spot his digiflora trousers just in time to go prone and ready weapon. He looks at me, in complete bewilderment as I plant three shots into his carrier, killing him more or less instantly. Smoke clears, bodies of both sides literally crumbled around and over each other.
-"Help me bro, I got him", ally cries out as stairwell has corpses laying over the railing. What a hero.
-Spawn on ally, somewhere in a woodland along a wheat field. Encounter naked man. He is screaming "you HAVE to help me". Ally states that stranger things have happened in Donetsk. We escort him through the woods, but his bright, tight white undergarments draws sniper fire. He is the only casualty. He has a peaceful look on his face. He died as he lived, naked and afraid.
-Spawn into third floor barracks/apartments. Night, everyone rocking NVGs. Silenced rifles point out of every window from the office space. Sporadic subsonic bullets split the soundbarrier as outside, someone is lobbing concussive grenades into every window they can find. Room is being used as temporary triage for wounded. Constantly falling in and out of consciousness, trying to make it to the hallway and bathroom on west wing. Russian forces marching up the stairs toward us while people are screaming for treatment, are getting concussed and knocked face down, all while what sounds like the Battle of Grozny occurs outside.
-Lovely Donetsk town turns to Bakhmut in an instant. 45 hour persistent firefight never seems to end, objectives ignored. Everyone is fighting for kills. Vehicles mindlessly drive numerous men to their deaths and RPGs are just as plentiful as 74s.
-"This looks like my apartment right now", thickly accented Frenchman before HEAT rocket obliterates 4 man raid team
-Force Ukrainian to surrender in trench. Make him get naked. Send him running back to his base. Everyone laughs. Step into trench line to loot his stuff. Everyone is immediately blown up.
-"Did you really think it would be so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ easy?" Russian squad leader after losing 8 of our 10 man team fighting a guy with a M21 rifle, woodland camo and reindeer antlers with Christmas lights
-"Get in", driver immediately before driving us in front of the largest contingent of Ukrainian machine gunner forces in East Ukraine
-Russian team completely loses minds, repeatedly assault our position without trousers
-Server crash results in everyone relogging naked besides grenades, tragedy occurs
-Entire team fails to grab objectives due to improvised Native American pow wow at main operating base
-"Why are you wearing an Austrian flag patch?" "Because I'm racist"
