Do both of you have Windows 8?

Try this: Click on the "Library" tab and view all games. Then right click Shattered Horizon and click properties. Then a new steam window should pop-up with these three tabs: "General", "Updates", and "Local Files". Click the tab that says "Local File". Then click the option that says: "Verify Integrity of Game Cache", click that and wait for it to finish. This may not fix the problem, and if it doesn't, tell me and I will try to find another solution.

Found the reason, it was the PhysX driver that had to be updated.
