There is going to be lots of updates in the next month and a half for preparation of their official release on the 11th April 2014.
Play the game some more, it really is fun to play.
In ZPS you get to learn how to barricade faster/more effectively, that cooperation is the key to survival - qualities that you would expect to be needed in a real outbreak. Contagion is nothing like that, it feels like a limping L4D rip off.
You might think that this only reflects my opinion of the game, but take a look at how old the ZP community is: most of us are here SINCE HL1 and still play ZPS for it's uniqueness! We're in 2014 and i'm posting here because I feel heartbroken by the direction Contagion has chosen to go in. ZP's gameplay is unique and high quality enough which is the hardest part of building an excellent game, all that it needed was a graphic update, some minor tweaks and maybe some advertising!
The poster above me is right in saying that if they don't care about ZPS anymore, devs should hand the keys to those who actually still do.
Again, it's totally different team compared to Contagion Team, just 2 or 3 guys from ZPS Dev Team are on the Contagion Team now.
And you guys need to understand this is a free mod since 2007, lot of free-work was given by a lot of people with good skills (Programming, Level Design, Modelers, Sounds and etc.), of course free mods will have their up and down moments, it's normal, anyone here is receiving any money to make this HL2 mod still alive since 2007.
Dunno if you guys known about this info but our programmer Sammy is busy with his real life right now, and we can't do quitly nothing without a good programmer to work and fix currently bugs and 'to-do' list to release ZPS 2.5 for public.
We can't just 'give the rights to some strange people-fan base' like that, that's not 'how the things works' - it's like "Fans asking Valve to give their powers/tools to other people and let them make Half-Life 3. Wouldn't be the same HL game if made by other people/group.
I appreciate all the contributors that have leave their work to ZPS and i see how good this mod is yet!
Applications are open for any one if want to apply to the Dev Team, for now only 'as Playtesters' is closed. You're more than welcome to apply, now don't say such words like that to the Dev Team.
I'm just a Playtester and community mapper for ZPS and i love to do this. I can understand that 'real life/real work' is more important than this 'hobby-free time' for this mod.
Contagion is not a mod, it's a game, people really work in there to make anything possible for that game be good and get some attention.
Maybe when they full release that game, they might probably give a hand on ZPS soon.
What i can say to you now is wait.
Oh ya, the phone vibration locator thingy is absolutely horrendous. Very lame.
The modders will fix Contagion and save the world. I agree that comparing Contagion to L4D is not fair. Contagion is not that bad. Contagion's multiplayer is much better and does not have as much of an arcade feel. Escape is fantastic. I love escape but I wish I could have a ZPS-like multiplayer experience in some of the other game modes.
The "Devs" = Me as the rest of Contagion (Alex did handle animations for awhile on ZPS) is developed by professionals who never worked on ZPS.
Sorry you think our game is crappy but it is soooo far remove from L4D that is a ridiculous claim.
So you're upset we didn't give you ZPS2 (Promised I'd never charge you guys and we need to make a living) right away and that seems to be the real issue. Contagion is more so about barricading and cooperation which is nearly forced on you while in ZPS ppl run around solo way too often unless barricaded in one of the 2hour custom maps that took over and scared away most ZP:S fans heh.
Once again I'm sorry we didn't make the game you wanted and that being clear we weren't wasn't enough thus leading to your disappointment. I hope you'll check it out on full release but if you're not interested in Contagion anymore when the time is right ZPS will get it's love :)
A proper ZPS sequel could add in plenty of PVP in addition to what is already loved about ZPS. The more game modes the better.
ZPS is advertised as the most played HL2 mod ever and so the fan base in plentiful. ZPS' popularity is clearly what is selling so many copies of Contagion. Add the marketing of Steam Greenlight with ZPS' success, and it is an easy sell. In fact, a lot of us bought Contagion under the impression that it was going to be a ZPS successor.
Imagine that Contagion was exactly as it is now....except the game modes were all ZPS game modes. It would sell just the same as it is now obviously. Throw in a few new modes like extraction and escape...even better.
It is true that I was not paying attention to the news in these forums about Contagion not being a sequel to ZPS. I understand and accept that.
You made a good point. There would be people complaining about Contagion if it were strictly ZPS modes. However, that is why I believe everyone would be open to new modes added in. I just feel that the ZPS modes were more fun and I would personally be more than willing to shell out money for a total ZPS facelift.
