Command & Conquer™ Red Alert™ 3

Command & Conquer™ Red Alert™ 3

Warning: This game is limited to 30 FPS
A fair warning to those enticed by the 70% off sale.

If you're not sure what this means, try the demo first. If your eyeballs aren't popping out of your sockets and your head isn't splitting in two, you might still be able to play. Have fun.

---

Don't know why you should even care? FPS numbers affect whether fast motion on the screen - such as panning your camera in an RTS - will look acceptable to a human eye.

Have a look at this[boallen.com]. Or this[frames-per-second.appspot.com].

Long story short, this frame limit can render the game nothing more than a giant annoyance, up to and including physical headache and eyestrain. It's not necessarily so - depends on whether you can personally handle it - but it's quite possible you're just going to waste your money on something you can't play, even if you really want to.

I don't think that is a deal breaker for a game like this.

Draco how can you stand to go to the theatre? It's only 24 fps.

Well, it made the game unplayable for me, I think it's reasonable it would be the same for someone else.

There's a reason you never see fast panning shots in movies. Even the worst of directors know about limitations of low frame-rate: everything moving beyond a certain speed becomes a blurry headache.

FPS is even more important in RTS games than fast-paced shooters.

Gee and there I spent 60 hours playing Dragon Age: Origins at 10-14FPS.

30FPS is not a turn off for me.

Try the demo to be safe. Low FPS is much more important in RTS than modern action games.

I never noticed that. No wonder I hated it.

tiberium wars is also capped at 30 fps. RTS don't need anything more than 30 fps to get silky smooth gameplay.

Unless you want to pan the camera to look at something other than your base, that is.

So in other words when you pan your camera your FPS are dropping.

No. I'm saying moving the camera at 30 FPS will likely give you headache.

The game can report 60 FPS, but it will still run at 30. There's a way to actually double the FPS limit, but it'll double the speed of the whole game as well. Pretty awful, really.

No its because your FPS are dropping when you pan your camera. It does the samething in Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2, you pan the camera the fps drop.
