Windows 8.1

I'm having a hard time getting it running on Windows 8.1 (x64). Anyone else out there tried? Will update this post if I make any progress.

Just getting it to launch. I get a blank, black screen. I see the RA3 cursor for a moment, but then nothing ever actually happens. If you're running it successfully on Windows 8.1, did you have any issues during installation? I just discovered the VC80_Redist package is actually failing to install, so that could be my specific issue. Still testing.

Well, I did get it to work, but honestly I didn't change anything. It just decided to work on like the 4th or 5th try. I had trouble getting the resolution to change via the game interface, so I ended up having to modify the options.txt file and manually setting the resolution. After that though, the game seems to work just fine. Wish I could explain what fixed it...

Cant run Red Alert Demo on my Windows 8.1. Loading picture shows for a few seconds and after runs steam launcher with demo video.

Pressing esc during intro video will take you to start screen. I can get game to start but i can not see mouse cursor on any screen in game. Trying the applying of different res in options.ini has made no improvement. I also checked to make sure pointer trails were not switched on as mentioned in another thread.

Any ideas on how to get cursor showing in the demo game on windows 8?
