I don't shy away from heavy games, and actually really enjoy titles that are able to subtly grapple with tough subjects, like Spiritfarer. This game started out really interesting, but the writing and execution quickly devolved into surface-level emotion tugging, rushed, nonsensical plot developments with a lack of character/relationship building, and, for want of a better description, felt like grief p**n.

I hope they gained a lot of experience and valuable feedback, though, and look forward to how the studio grows in future games!

It's a relatively short game with a heart of gold. The pixel art was adorable and adds some charm, along with the wonderful color palette. The soundtrack is both heartbreaking and comfy. But the cherry on top is the story, a story about serving the souls of the afterlife their last meal and that's about where I stop, otherwise it'll spoil the entire story. But I will say that it's a heartfelt one that will leave you in tears.
