From disk copy

Ok i've been trying to run the game through the gold edtion i bought a ternity ago. I've been having the whole can't initilaize problem since i'm trying to run it on something with windows 7. I know i've didn't have this issue before when i played it on my tower since that was a XP OS. I've done the various process of running on different compatiblity modes, resplutions,various different boxes cliked and the like.

Anyone know of any work around i could try and do, this is a disk copy i'm using i havn't tried installing the elves expansion pack for reasons.
