Whoa! Let this be a lesson to any other devs who want to ship a poopy port. Put a bit of love and elbow grease into it, and holy crap, the magic you can do. Awesome job guys. I don't think its too little too late, I think its a good job for a great game, and I appreciate your effort. Everyone deserves to play Munch, the way it was meant to be, and now they can.

OddWorld: Munch's Oddysee is an under appretiated masterpeice. With wonderfully designed characters, an awesome soundtrack, hillarious and strong story, strategy, action, and good old platforming, it is a game beyond compare. It also provides plenty of backstory, so you don't even have to had played the other games. And for only $5.00? Get out your moolah and buy this game now!

Abe is a hero among his people after destroying Rupture Farms and Soul Storm Brewery. He has saved a great many of his Mudoken freinds from being turned into lunch and tricked into slavery, but he always knew there were more of his brothers out there. Munch is a Gabbit who has lost his people. After the Glukons, those who were behind Rupture Farms and Soul Storm Brewery, used nets to capture all of the Gabbits from the ocean, Munch has been left alone without any hope of seeing another of his kind again. But together, with their psychic abilities, they will bring down the Glukons and Vyykers Labs once and for all, and get the last can of Gabbit Eggs to save Munch's race. But not without saving the Mudokens and the Fuzzles of course!

Some people critisize this game because of it being a port, but I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of the controls, graphics, or anything whatsoever. This game is a purchase you will not regret, and I also recommend the others in the series as well.

This was a pretty fun game. I've played this on the original Xbox WAY back when I was like 10 or something. I just HAD to get this for Steam :)

Did you play this as a child xD? I loved this game as a kid and although I think it's lost some of it's charm it's still a fairly solid puzzle game.

After playing this back in the day on the xbox original, I already knew this was gonna be a blast from the past. I never actually knew this was on steam and I'm so glad I found it, nostalgia is the greatest feeling and I recommend this game to anyone. It's such a shame you don't see games like this anymore :/

Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee is the third game in the Oddworld franchise following Abe and newcomer Munch. Originally released on the Xbox on November 6th 2001 as a console exclusive, and released on steam on the 20th of December 2010. Furthermore the port has been updated in 2016 adding better resolution support, audio, graphics, gameplay tweaks and adding Steam achievements and cards.


The game starts with introducing the newcomer Munch the Gabbit. He’s the last of his kind of the sea creatures. They (the Gabbit’s) have been fished up for profits, being made into meat products and Gabbiar (caviar made of Gabbit eggs). Gabbits are able to use Ecco to find each other, but when he though he found one it ended up being a bear-trap. After getting stuck Munch faints and gets escorted to Vykkers labs. Vykkers labs collects creatures across Oddworld to do experiment on. But instead of testing on Munch or killing it to sell the meat off, they instead implant him with a Ecco sonar beacon. This allows munch to send out bolts of lightning to unlock Fuzzles from their cages. Allowing him and the Fuzzles to break free!

At the same time The Almighty Raisin informs Abe the Modokon about Vykkers plan to sell a bunch of Modokon eggs off to the highest bidder. He explains where to go in order find Munch, and only with his help they will be able to save the eggs and Gabbiar. (The only way to save the Gabbit population)


The game starts off with a lengthy tutorial explaining Abe’s Movement and abilities to the player. Abe is able to Jump, Sprint, Speak, Throw, Punch and Sneak. In addition to that move-set Abe can use Spooceshrubs (A collectable) to open doors or take over and possess enemy NPC to use in battle or to clear a away. In Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee you are not the driving force being a encounter, rather it’s your NPC ally’s (Modokon’s and, or Fuzzels) that will do most of the fighting for you.

Munch sports another move set. Unlike Abe Munch is able to swim, but due to the fact that he’s a sea creature he’s very slow on land. Munch is able to Swim, Speak, Open cages, and use wheelchairs for extra movement speed.

Both Abe and Munch are able to use Vending machines across Oddworld for power-ups to use within the stage power-up include:

-Aqua Bounce:
Make Munch jump high in water

-Bounce:
Makes Abe jump high

-Expresso:
Makes both character run faster

-Health up:
Gives both characters full health

-Invisible:
Turns both characters invisible for a short period of time

-Zap:
Gives Munch the ability to use his Sonar to zap enemy players


These Power-ups are mostly needed to beat missions. There is one level where you have to run through a field of angry and hungry scrabs. This enemy type is much faster than Abe’s default movement speed. Using Expresso will allow Abe to run at double speed making him able to get through the stage unharmed.


The stages in Oddworld: Munch Oddysee have more than a few things to do. You can just finish the main objective and go to the end, but this will have great consequences on your Quarma (Karma system). Quarma will be positive if you save Fuzzels and Scrub Modokons (Slaves) from their captivity. The more you save the better your Quarma will be. This is important because only when your Quarma status is good you will be able to unlock the ‘’Good Ending’’ of the game (80% saved allies). If you didn’t save enough allies from captivity you will get the ‘’Bad Ending’’

Saving your allies is a secondary objective but your main objective in most of the stages is to either get throught them plain and simple. Or to fund money to your slush fund (Lulu’s Fund). This fund will be used to enter the bid for the last can of Gabbiar. They achieve this by possessing Lulu the Glukkon. They will use the money to bid to be able to obtain the Gabbiar!


The performance of Oddworld: Munch Oddysee is hit and miss. Most of the time it runs at a solid 60FPS. But it does crash sometimes. I had it crash on me two times so far, losing my progression in the process, putting me back two or three levels at a time… (MAKE SURE TO SAVE THE GAME)

An other weird thing I noticed was the games video playback can go to a standstill. With the video freezing completely and the audio stuttering.

I would very much recommend this game to anybody who like Puzzle Platformers with a good story attached to it. The world of Oddworld is very interesting! Many people will find a thing to enjoy!

this game is one of the best games i own and its also cheap.
i paid 50$ for it when it first came out on the first xbox and never forgot it.
playing it now it blows my mind that age has not taken away from it.
very much under rated.

This game is like sex for the first time. Little bit awkward at first, an absolute thrill, a truly great experience and makes you think of the time you and your Dad spent together. Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee was a big leap from the previous Oddworld titles, leaving the 2D side scrolling adventure to a full 3D experience.

Experience brilliantly made environments that show you the lush-vibrant grassy wilderness to the metallic and eerie industrial levels. If you're not a stranger to the Oddworld series, then you'll know what to expect, however if you are new to the series, then I would urge you to play Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exodus before playing this title. But if you can't or don't want to, have no fear, the game does explain the backstory of what's happened so far and sets you up for a fun and wholesome experience. Oddworld is designed in a way that it sort of mirrors our current situation on Earth, tackling the same issues like hunger, war, racism and discrimination just to name a few, which is what makes this series stand out. It can be lighthearted and provide a joyous experience for younger players while also tackling very real and dark subjects for older players.

I would have to give this game a 9/10

I played this game when I was 5-6 years old on my Xbox.
Its just as good now as it was then.

I can't get myself to play this any further.
The audio is messed up beyond belief, and the overall atmosphere suffers greatly from it.
And for someone like me, who always enjoyed the atmosphere of the Oddworld games, this is a huge dealbreaker.
The original Xbox version sounds much different upon comparison and feels much more like an actual Oddworld game. What we have to deal with here kills the entire experience for me and only makes me wish that I had the original copy on the original console. Whoever was in charge of this port deserves to be fired.

If I had one, I'd boot up he original Xbox version instead of this. And I'd suggest anyone who actually gives a damn about the developer's original vision and the Oddworld feeling, to steer clear of this port. (Or any other port for the matter, they all seem to suffer from this issue)
