Purpose of Smoke/ Mist in each area?

In most new areas, you can find what appears to be smoke/ mist that will darken/ lighten the level if you touch it. Is there any purpose to these beyond changing the lighting? When the game's dark, it can get pretty hard to navigate lol. Trying to spare myself the trouble if there's nothing else to it...

- No clip camera mode added

Instructions for no clip camera mode:
Hold down C B G keys for 3 seconds, use the WASD keys to fly around, shift to speed up, Ctrl to slow down, Q and E to go up and down, press SPACE to attach the camera back to the player.

Severe Stuttering that I do not see in online footage

Hello, Whenever I try to play the game, everything that I can see on screen shakes and stutters but only when I'm walking. I'm getting 144+ FPS on a 144hz monitor, so it simply does not make sense why it stutters. I've tried looking online to see if anyone else has my issue and I don't see anybody else complaining about it. Online footage I see certainly looks slightly choppy, but it's completely different than what I see. I cannot read or even understand what objects I am supposed to be looking at when I...
