Though puzzles were hard to solve, I really love the idea of skipping puzzle after spending some time. Leave it forever, please. Another statement is about puzzles in book of backstories. This was a fun game. It's G-rated and suited for all ages as far as story, but be warned: very young kids may have a problem with some puzzles or finding some hidden objects. However, you can skip puzzles with no penalty and you can use the hint button (which finds you an object that you need) with no penalty, and it refills pretty quickly.
