I don't see any reason why Windows 10 holds you from buying this game. There is an UT2004 demo that you can try before buying the game for which probably counts the same instruction.

The game works flawless on Windows 10, but the default settings trigger a depreciated directx function which causes a crash. Telling the game not to use that depreciated function or making use of converters to bypass the issue solves it.

I asked Flak a year ago to change values in the .ini on the steam slipstream installation so people can just boot the game without issue, but no reply. That would be better than a sticky.

Agreed, that would be the way to do it. Maybe try again? It seems like every day somebody posts a new thread about Win10 startup crashes. A minute of work on the other end would put a stop to a lot of nonsense/refunds from people who can't be bothered to search.
