Full stop -- this game is not a Metroidvania.

It is, as the devs put it, "2D side-scrolling survival action." You will hate this game if you expect classic Metroidvania with upgrading abilities and progression.

This game is pure exploration and depth of weapons/magic(that are also almost always damage spells).

This game is also a little clunky (by design), your attacks, dodges, and spell casts will be heavily punished if you don't act with intent (think old school Castlevania). You will probably die a lot, also by design.

It's a punishing game, but not terribly difficult. You just have to understand what you're playing.
