Boring Song Tracks
Why is it, that alot of songs don't play very well with Audiosurf?

Like there's rap songs that will make a good track, then there's rap songs that are just a flat and boring track. Yngwie Malmsteen's music makes really slow, flat, and boring tracks. Same with ICP, Eminem, Flosstradamus, and a few others.

I don't understand why, and i don't know how to word it when looking it up on google. It says "Be sure to pick a song with a good beat." You choose a song like something from Flosstradamus, which is literally nothing BUT a beat, and Audiosurf just derps out.

What are the traffic ratings for the tracks you mentioned?
Trilla Sep 15, 2013 @ 9:34am
Let me check real quick.

Edit: This is all Mono Pro.
Eminem= low low 70s (most are all purple sloping in a spiral upwards) ( Eminem, at least for me is the worst out of all of these.)
Yngwie= 150ish
ICP= low 100s
Flosstradamus= 80-90

Like I said though, some tracks work well, some don't. I just want to understand why, especially when the song has a heavy beat.

It seems that this game was made for metal and electronic music.

I tend to have a good gaming experience when I play across multiple genres. Using things like movie scores give you a dynamic game with varying speeds and long game play for some songs. Pop gives you a medium ground of fast choruses with a bit of a lull with the versus. Tempo is also interesting to play around with, for example, Marches and things like that provide a new challenge with changing timing and dynamics, plus slower songs allow for cool down between faster ones if your feeling burnt out.

As do I, but there are some songs, whose beat won't be registered by Audiosurf. Like, the track will be completely purple, flat and horrifically slow (mostly Eminem, and Yngwie.) When the actual song has a very heavy beat to it, or is a metal/ rock song.

One example would be: I go to play something by a deathcore band eg. Infant Annihilator, Chelsea Grin etc. And there's 7,000,000 grays going mach ten at my screen.

Then I go to play just a rock song like Yngwie, or even some AC/DC, And the track will be pure purple with a smidge of green in it.

I just want to understand why.

Tempo perhaps?

Eh, It's possible. I mean they aren't really slow songs.

I prefer dubstep instead of rap. Both slow and intence sessions :D
I play mostly pop, and it varies between songs what colors I get. On Ninja Mono (with ironmode on) They usually start purple-blue, sometimes to green if there's a lull before the chorus, and the rest of the song is yellow-orange, sometimes red if it's really fast. I've played some scores too, and the piano music turns the track into a rollercoaster. I would say try some different genres to see if you can find a better ride, or maybe increasing difficulty and turning Ironmode on would help?

I only play Mono Pro with Ironmode on. I guess it's just the song is
A. not being read by audiosurf right.
B. the song really is just boring.

Its all about the tempo i believe. Some songs progress some digress.

As far as I know rap usually sits at 80-100 beats per minute. Slow music -> slow track. Rap also doesn't really have large peaks and valleys in it's waveform due to it's large emphasis on rhythm, which probably also contributes to making tracks dull.

Try something like this to check if your Audiosurf is working properly.

Weird Al songs (in general) are almost as hard as Vocaloid songs (which some of them are nearly impossible). Metal songs on the other hand, are just asphalts with little greys. It just ends with the song.

You can compare these two videos to get a better opinion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFnfoQGcSsQ & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCm_drmT1MQ :)

The difficulty level also has some impact on the game. Take an example: Gotye - Sombody That I Used To Know. Play it on Pro, and you have a fun and challenging track. Drop the difficulty to Basic, and the track looks like a typical highway...at 2am.

Hmm, I see. Also, I only play on Ninja. I thought pro and ninja were the same thing.

Another question I have is, How is it possible for me to get stealth, clean finish, match 11, and ironmode. And get less points than someone who got the exact same thing, even when I don't miss any bricks.

Because the scoring system is a bit more complex than that. The more cars you have in one match, the more points you will get, so in some situations, you actually want to miss a car on purpose.
