Game crashes after I run it twice
GTA1 crashes the SECOND time I run it. Does anyone have a solution? (FifthEmpire's issue is different)

The reason this happens is because the PLAYER_A.DAT file gets corrupted by the game or when saving. i had this issue as well. There is a bypass launcher available at http://gzwn.net/gta1launcher/ . just download it and copy the files to the game folder. it doesnt have any malware in it.

I got an even better solution... download this file {LINK REMOVED} and do what I mentioned in the readme! U can then start gta as usual via steam without suffering from the crash-bug... ;-) cheers

Thanks NoOoSi -- I use the launcher in your package and it works great. Thanks again

To prevent the game from only running once, you need to take a backup of the file gtadata\PLAYER_A.DAT. Remember to do this before you run the game the first time. The next time you want to play the game, you need to replace this file with the one you've backed up.

This needs to be repeated every single time you want to play the game. This is the only solution that works if you don't want to download any files you don't trust.

Thank you very much for the information. I will try it out. If you game's corrupted already you can VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES. It will basically overwrite everything and you can start again but it also deletes your game & settings.

Hopefully your fix works/ Thank you again./

edit: it doesn't work = your game is not saved in that way/ Replacing with a clean file is the same as verifying integrity which returns the game to the default/

Here's the fix. Tried and working on win7 x64. Download GTAFixer.rar 23KB. I've got it from:

https://gtamp.com/gta1/

Unpack and put the file in = x:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto

You have to run it every single time before the game. No biggy. If you also wonder about saving like I did a few minutes ago:

I can't express how much I appreciate that there are people who make those little programs, people who host them and others who spread the knowledge so many may also fix their problems.

We're all 1. We should take care of each other. It would be merrier if Rockstar actual cared about their legacy...
