interested but nervous about putting cash down the toilet
i play arma and Iron front so realism and difficulty are important to me.

I have read that the game is effectively dead in the water player numbers wise and the sequel has a reputation for being absolutely terrible.

So, if i was your brother or friend would you recommend?

RO1 is the best Eastern Front multiplayer game bar none. Darkest Hour, a total conversion of RO1, is the greatest ww2 multiplayer experience I've had. It's cheap, and although RO1 is quiet stateside, DH has had a consistent community since it was launched.

Unscoped hipshooting is more intuitive than in Arma, even if there is no crossair in RO1.
But it requires a personnal investment to be achieved.

If you can take the time, standard bolt action rifle aimed with ironsight will give you good mid-range results, and if you have a screen big enough, try long-range shots.

Get Darkest Hour (it'll appear in your library) and hop on the 29th Server. There's always a game going most times.

You'll need to edit darkesthour.ini to get widescreen support.

I play it everyday (RO1), and sometimes Mare Nostrum mod and very rarely DH mod because I like achievements and DH doesn't have any. But I do like the DH conversion of RO1 like the zoom, the maps, different units/weapons.

I think that the Steam Achievements in Darkest Hour would be nice!

Just wanted to say that RO1 + DH are some of the best money you'll ever spend on gaming. Both are amazing games with NO SUCCESSORS. Whenver I boot up Darkest Hour I'm reminded instantly of why it is my favorite online FPS of all time - it just reeks of quality.

RO1 and DH should get a FREEWARE RELEASE so that the games don't DIE OUT for no reason.
