All the updates listed here recently have now made their way onto the main branch.

As a note for anyone with an existing character, it wont show you the tutorials again to explain spells but please note that spells will now be selected with the function keys (F1, F2 etc) instead of Shift + 1 etc

Unfortunately though, they wont be available on the demo for some time because I made a mistake. Since the majority of Aiyana's development has just been myself working solo there was no need to work in branches.

What this means is that I'm not able to easily roll back to a point before I merged some updates with my combat changes, if I did I would lose some of the bug fixes.

Once the combat update is finished I'll be able to fix this situation so it hopefully wont happen again in the future but until then I wont be able to push any bug fixes live.

I'm hoping to have the first pass of the combat system in beta in about a week.

Some feedback (From a person who has played every game like this to ever be made)

A couple of things. 1: As I'm sure you know, combat is atrocious. I get it, early access, But when you release something like this that really needs to be a priority. Even minecraft as old as it is is more responsive with enemies having knockback effects. I think refining combat should honestly be your major focus as its in a terrible state. Even just a few tweaks can make it better. * sword should not swing like tools They need their own animation and a windup time a lot lik what minecraft has, esp...

Release 0.1.6.8 (Beta)

I'm still making progress on the combat update but a few issues have come up with the spells UI so this release addresses a bunch of them.

One thing to point out from this list is that the Stone Tiles crafting recipe has both been updated and disabled temporarily. For new players, or any character that had yet to craft them, they wont see the recipe any more but if you had crafted with the recipe now it will have more options of tiles to create. E.G Sandstone Tiles.

The reason for this is because the recipe will become a reward for a milestone system I'm working on and I'm trying to reduce confusion for having to complete a milestone to unlock a recipe you already have.

Changes

Updated/fixed marble so it drops marble cobble stone
Added tiles for sand and mountain stones
Updated the tiles recipe so it can craft all the stone tile variants
Disabled the tiles recipe for new characters
Double tap to sprint can now be disabled

Bugs

Fixed held spells like Night Vision being stuck on if you use the function keys to cast them
Fixed the spells slot UI not being cleared when you clear a spell from the Spellbook
Fixed the checkbox for sprinting not being masked and rendering off screen
Fixed sprint being stuck on if you had sprint active in toggle mode and swapped to hold mode
Fixed furnaces still trying to smelt when you destroy them
Fixed item pickups losing their hash index if you try to gather them whilst inventory is full. This would do things like crops would lose their quality
Fixed fertiliser/crop compatibilities not being saved/loaded properly
Fixed the numbers for the floating spell bar grids being half their intended size
Fixed stamina being reduced if you started a sprint, stopped moving but kept holding the sprint key
Fixed the spell slot numbers being visible in the main menu
Fixed an error thrown when creating a new character to load into an existing world
Fixed the error message of the continue button not restoring the main menu UI once you closed it
Fixed furnace cooking audio continuing to play if you destroy one whilst it is cooking
Fixed spell icons blocking HUD icons when they are first equipped
Fixed the always showing spells UI first populating as invisible when using the Spellbook
Fixed the spells bar appearing when you enable always shown spells UI, even if you have no spells yet
Fixed stamina being reduced when hold to sprint is true and you hold sprint but are standing still
Fixed feedback not appearing when you need to place the bed within a totems borders
Fixed seeing spells appear in the quick bar slots when using floating mode and assigning new spells via the spellbook
Fixed the spellbook behaving inconsistently when clicking slots whilst no spell is selected yet

UI & Wording Changes

Updated the background of the key rebinding dialogue (was the wrong size)
Updated how info is given to hold a modifier key so it is visible for longer and easier to read
Fixed the continue button not appearing the first time you create a world
Updated the time format in the sleeping UI to be am/pm instead of military time
Added numbers to the floating spells slot
Added more info to sleeping to help explain when you can next sleep again

Sleeping & Spells UI (Beta)

This release has a few things packed into one.

First it further improves upon Key Rebinding and hopefully brings it up to a state that might make it into the main branch.

It also includes an update to sleeping which is something I want in place before tackling the larger combat update since previously you could sleep as often as you like restore to full health but now sleeping is on a cooldown.

Finally it has some new UI settings to give you more choice of how to use spells and how to display the grid numbers of your hot bar.

Sleeping

Sleeping now has a cooldown so you can only sleep every 16 hours
Beds can now only be used if they are within a Protection Totems borders
Dying will now trigger the sleeping cooldown, meaning you need to wait before you get your sleeping buff again
Updated the sleeping UI to provide a lot more info about current time
Sleeping now reduces hunger
Sleeping now advances time for things like crops, saplings, furnaces and compost bins

Changes

Upped the max FOV to 110
Controls rebinding now lets you keep pressing keys until you are happy
Added a floating UI option for the new spells layout
Made the numbers at the bottom of the HUD easier to see
Changed these numbers to appear as you scroll/select things on the quickbar
Added a setting to control if the numbers should auto hide or always be visible
Current stamina is now saved/loaded instead of always being full on a load
Hunger will now reduce over time as well as the usual actions (previously was actions only)
Crops are no longer influenced by the time of day and grow at the same speed regardless of its day or night (previously crops would grow much slower at night)

UI & Wording Changes

Updated the berry bush descriptions
Updated the UI of key rebinding so it’s easier to read
Increased the size of some of the text in the crafting UI
Added a confirm/cancel dialogue to using the Reset to Default button
Fixed the key binding text for each key not being updated if you clear preferences
Added a close/cancel button to the sub rebinding screen
Fixed the torch tutorial always saying T instead of the custom keybind you have set
Same for the tutorial to open the structure builder and the rotating structures key
Changed when the held torch fuels tutorial appears in an attempt to make it less overwhelming
Added some feedback to key rebinding when trying to use a modifier key to explain that it needs to be held for longer

Bugs

Hotfix for not being able to select things on the hotbar (This was release 0.1.6.2)
Fixed grass and chunk draw distances not resetting to default properly
Fixed controls rebinding forcing you to hit finished each time you find a conflict
Fixed taking damage as soon as you spawn into a world until you start walking etc
Fixed the hold to sprint button not working
Fixed a button for the first attribute levelled up tutorial doing nothing
Fixed stone tiles no longer being craftable
Fixed furnaces holding onto their data when being reset
Changed how the continue button works to prevent it struggling to determine which was the last used world/character when you have more than one of them

Why in the world is this not multiplayer? This looks awesome. But the best part of these games is playing WITH FRIENDS :/ I hope you can add multiplayer. I have a pretty large friend group and we all just play games together. Collectively we've spent about $40,000 on steam games for each other. I'd love to add this one to our multiplayer pile....

Early Access Review

Fun so far. But needs a lot more work in the content area.
Combat especially is... boring. But that's the focus of the next major update apparently.
I recommend it personally.
