Im trying to grow white corn to leave the area. I cant seem to do it. I plant all the right ingredients but it just turns to trees. Is this the end? You never leave?

Thought I'd give this game a try and want to succeed but at the moment I'm not too sure what I'm doing. I've tried several combinations of seeds/plants to get the Blue Paste I need to get to the second level but without success. I'm pretty sure it's me being a bit thick that's stopping me from progressing but if any kind soul could help me out (without giving too much away to other players) I would really appreciate it. Im a bit confused about the symbols that appear. The plus sign means multiple traits within the plant, and the ? means that it is a multi trait that you have to grow in order to know what they are. Can you give a guide or explain the multi trait rules and aillles(sp) and how they work with each other. For instance the tubers that require yellow tree, wood disk planter AND a ?tower. I had to make one seed for two traits plant it then add the third trait and plant that. I think i have to do something lik...

Can't get blue dye at all-every time I combine blue bushes and dye trees, I just get dead trees. I must be doing something wrong, but what is it?
