So, my suggestion, is to buy Wrath of the Lamb by itself, as a gift. That way you can keep it in your inventory and unlock it when you feel that you're ready for the extra content.
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU 2.
Exactly how is this overpowered? Especially if you pick it up near the end of the game. No way you're gonna beat Isaac or ??? consistently with one heart even if you get 9 tries (not saying it can't be done, it's just unlikely).
Also: dead cat is an item from the vanilla game, not from the DLC.
Really wish I thought of that at the time, but oh well the dlc can't be too bad.
You are right on both accounts.
I still want to play the vanilla version though (not because the DLC is bad, but because I am a purist) and I found a way since I bought it through the Humble Bundle, I can download the vanilla game from their site and just play it from that executable.
Wrath of the Lamb really changes the tone. I'll want to play it later, but there is something about the vanilla that I have grown attached to.
I'd say the 'no damage' achievements are easier because you can do them in challenges like 'Isaac was good today' or 'Spiderboy'. You also don't have to do it for the new floors, only for the ones in the vanilla game.
As for me, I bought WoTL as soon as it was released :) As m3m3nt0 mentioned, with some challenges it is even easier to unlock boys achievements, so you can try to obtain all other of them without DLC and then buy it. But, I will say again, for me it was not a problem as I didn't mind it when WoTL was released, so it is for you to decide :)
P.S. I unlocked Basement Boy by the accident without even trying to do so. You can be lucky to do it as well while unlocking all other achievements without DLC cause of lack of new annoying enemies which will appear on new alternative floors.
