Insane exploit?!

So i have been trying to get the mom's contact achievement for ages but it never worked.
Last run i played i got a very exploitable item combo though, consisting of: the scapulars, the habit and the D6.
Using this item combo i could take damage on a floor by walking into the curseroom and out of it. If my health dropped to half a red heart then i got a soul heart because of the scapulars.
Then i walked out of the curseroom and back in so my scapulars could work again.
I used this to reroll an item in the item room untill i got mom's eye ( i already had another mom item that run).
Now the question is, would you consider this cheating?
My friend said it is in the game so it's not cheating but another friend said that it is an exploit that the creator probably didn't want in the game so he considered it cheating.
So is it cheating? If so, then why?

An exploit would be taking advantage of a bug or something unintentional. As you describe it, all those items are working as intended.
