Maggy or Isaac?

Hey everyone, this game keeps kicking my butt but it's a lot of fun. I unlocked Maggy, so my question is, if I just want to get through the game should I use Maggy or Isaac? Does using either character change the drop rates for things like bombs and coins? It seems like when I use Maggy I don't find as many coins and bombs. Also are there any other tips for a noob? I've read up on all the basic stuff but I was wondering if there are any other less obvious tips I'm missing. Thanks

I would use maggy, the yum heart will help with keeping your health up. She also has the highest base health. Each character has their own perks and disadvantages so its a matter of preference.

Use slot machines as much as you can.

None of the characters change drop stats, unless it's the luck foot with cain. Anyways, Isaac gives you a bomb to start, and maggy gives you a coin. It's all a matter of preference, like Sticks And Stones said.

I strongly agree with this. Cain is great for begginers. You could either hope to get dollar bills from coin slot machine, or try to find the secret room every level. Secret rooms tend to have lots of .

I came close my last run but I got the familiar that takes your coins xD still no luck finding slot machines.

Unlock the d6 for Isaac and never look back. I never used maggy much. She is slower than Isaac, and you need all the speed you can get in the deapths and beyond. she can be good for beginners, however.
As Maggy, be sure to avoid the items Bucket of Lard and Odd Mushroom (large). These decreace your speed by one, making Maggy pretty much useless.

Tips: *beat bosses eithout taking any red heart dammage to increace your chances of spawning a devil room (spirit heart damage is ok). (killing beggars will also increace your chances)
*each level has 1 secret room, and one top secret room.
*Secret rooms are usuially attached to three different rooms.
*top secret rooms are never attached to more than one room.
*allways save your last bomb.
*my reflection and ippecac are terrible items.
*there are regular challange rooms, and boss challange rooms. A regular chalange room only opens when you are at full health. It usuially contains a chest, and spawns two or three waves of mobs when the chest is opened. A boss chalange room opens only when you are on your last heart. It contains an item from the boss room item pool. take it and you will have to fight two or three bosses, one after another. If you have telepills, The Fool tarrot card or any thing that teleports you to another room, you can just skip fighting the bosses.

*allways pick up remote dettonator. it gives you five bombs when you do. After that you can just drop it.
*wiggle worm is only usefull when combined with mutant spider.

Bum friend is just a bad item. I skip it every time and have never regretted it.

I pick it up in chapter 3. Womb doesn't have any shop, and it might just help you :P

my last run i got technology and a whole bunch of tears upgrades, and the item that changes a red heart into three spirit hearts. i got way further than i ever have, beat loki, and thought i stood a good chance of beating mom for the first time! but i died - got an ankh too, died as maggy, then died as ???. some of those rooms in the last level are brutal lol. kinda bummed out because i doubt i'll get that lucky with items again. practice makes perfect though! thanks for the help.

But slot machines/fortune tellers can save your butt in the later chapters, especially as Cain. (lucky foot guarantees fortune teller dropps)

It is almost impossible to hit an enemy that chases you when you have Ippecac. Spoon Bender/Telepathy for Dummies will make it more manageable, but it is still terrible to try and use.

Side note: getting any three guppy items will turn you into guppy, granting you flight, and causing you to spawn atack flies when you hit an enemy (like the mulliganon steroids).
