Mavericks indeed has caused us some problems. Unfortunately we haven't been able to figure this out. I'd suggest you'd contact Apple Support if they could help you with the X11 if there could be any solutions to this on their side.

Let me know what they reply. If they have a solution that would be great but if they don't we'll need to figure out what to do next. Hopefully we'll get the games working again one way or another :)

Same here!! When it will be fixed?! Please give us an ETA or at least have the decency to provide a refund.

when is this going to be fixed?

If you have contacted Apple Support, you can send us email (support [at] frozenbyte [dot] com) letting us know what they replied. We'll then figure out what to do. So yes refund is a possibility.

Question to the developers: Nobody is running OS X in your company? There is always the crash handler of OS X with debugging information. So it should possible to find that thing that is causing this crashes.

Permissions issue—can't *believe* it was something so simple. Yeesh.

On the Shadowgrounds Steam forum, user Xandr has tracked down a workaround. Read solution below, get your terminal.app ready, and GAME ON.

Example below is for original Shadowgrounds; for Survivor, the command is—

sudo open /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Shadowgrounds\ Survivor/survivor.app/Contents/Resources/survivor.app

I found a workaround for Mavericks users. It's based on solution for Penumbra Overture, which experience the same problem after Mavericks OS X update.

Folow the next steps:
1. Start game normally using Steam. You will see launcher window. Setup all essencial options like resolution (you can't change it from game). Don't forget to enable sound.
2. Open Terminal application and run the next commant (replace USERNAME with your own Mac OS username):

sudo open '/Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Shadowgrounds/shadowgrounds.app/Contents/Resources/shadowgrounds.app'

3. It will ask admin's password, type it and the game will start.

I guess that means Frozenbyte should only fix launcher to close this issue.

Thanks guys - it's a shame the developer is struggling to fix it.

Really appreciate the work-around.

The sudo tip worked till I went to the next level and it crashed again.

@jason I ran into the same problem once, and then went back to finish the first game. I'll dig into it a little bit more once I've finished Shadowlands :)

In the meantime, holler at the dev a little? Unno.

Hey!

Resolving takes a bit time because of a technical issue of sorts. The Mac ports of the Shadowgrounds games were done by a partner company and we don't actually have the sources. So unfortunately it's unlikely there will be a patch to fix this. We'll see if it's possible to accomplish this.

We appreciate this new information about the issue though and the fact you shared your solution for it.

Cheers.

Bought both Shadowgrounds & Shadowgrounds Survivor yesterday as Steam shows they run on Apple. I have an iMac running Mavericks.
Neither work. Shadowground just crashes from the launcher. Shadowgrounds Survivor launches then hangs with a black screen.

Am I the only person who thinks it unreasonable that a third party provides a workround thats only good for one level? And the game dev response is 'unlikely we can fix this'.

How about you let us all know when your game actually works, like we paid you for it to do.

I'm in the same boat as Alex. Downloading X11 got me a black screen for Survivor and a crash for Shadowgrounds on my 2012 iMac. While I want to wish X11 is the solution, its not...between this series and my Penumbra Gold Edition not working either, I'm a little disappointed with the lack of consistent updates for all platforms.
