AoE 2 or AoE 3 to buy?

Actually if you're playing casually AoE3 is better. It's very easy to understand and things are organized and clean around the map. AoE2 takes some time to learn how to play well, it's a very good game, but in my opinion it is visually polluted. But if you're a real fan of AoE series, you should totally buy it. =)

AoE 3 has better graphics and sound, but the campaign is historical fiction for some reason instead of actual history. If historical accuracy is your biggest reason for buying then get AoE 2. Plus the forgotten expansion is incredible with the new campaigns and civilizations.

eh who cares about historical accuracy, its game play that matters, aoe 3 has a better pace etc.

AoE2 = rush rush rush.

this is why i prefer Age of empires 3 for online pvp. :)

aoe3 the campaign is more fun, even multiplayer is more fun, aoe2 is just too old

More balanced (at least conquers is FoG Indians are still OP as ♥♥♥♥)

AoE 3 online play, still annoying due to the fact that resource gathering is lazy, home cities can make certain home cities just ludicrously unfair at high level games. France overall will easily kick every army's ass late game. They may lack elite imperial heavy infantry, but they make up for it with fat splash damage heavy cavaly, elite light infantry, and cannons (that efficiently do the most damage in the whole damn game)

Both.... but I would not recommend the multiplayer-mode in AoE2, it's simply too fast, it's more like rushing through enemy lines rather than enjoying the game and enjoying the atmosphere and the time creating your village/castle.
