A greatly underated strategy game that will bring you hours of enjoyment. If you like c&c games you will probably like this as well. However the game does seem to need a bit more polishing and feels as if it was released a month or two earlier than it should have been.

Great game, crippled by windows live. Matchmaking literally does not work, never has. And nobody i've played custom games with has been able to finish a match. We always desync a few minutes into the game. And when GFWL shuts down completely on July 1st, 2014... the game will be entirely unplayable, the exact reason people have been terrified of 3rd party DRM. I will update my review if GFWL is patched out of the game.

I would reccomend this game soley for its skirmishes, the singleplayer campaign does not deliver. However, if you can get friends to play this with you, there is nothing like sending towering units on the battlefield at em. Windows live has not shown up for me, so i would assume it isnt a problem anymore. There is a fix for the error at start up:

Yeah same here, it needs to down load "xlive.dll" That is what steam is trying to install before it gives you the abnormal game exit.

I got it working (moslty by luck) by going to the steam games directory (for me was C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Universe at War Earth Assault) then going to the 'xliveredist' folder and running the instilation file there.

I ran it and it worked after I told windows to allow it acces when It asked me.

I had also done some fooling around before hand via using windows 7 combatibility settings and disabling my anti-virus so if intalling it does not work try running it with combatilitlity and anti-virus.

This is a very great game, not hard to learn and isn't complicated, it also has full multiplayer and 3 solo campaigns!

#6- Universe at War: Earth Assault

Universe at War: Earth Assault has some great concepts and mechanics. Some of them were very clear and easy to understand and others seemed to be sunken deep into the game to really understand. Of course that could be because I jumped directly into the game playing Skirmishes without doing any kind of tutorial.


What does that mean exactly ? Well at first I was playing as the Novus who seemed very similar to the Protoss of Starcraft. I say that loosely because the only real similarity is their pylon style based building system. However as you play your army gains levels of sorts. You can spend your resources to advance in tech or something similar to commander abilities.


The Novus themselves have a special mechanic that lets them upgrade their tech and you can choose up to like three. This can be armor, shielding, health, unit movement speeds. damage and other things. I didn’t notice that until nearing the end of my first game. Along with the other army progression.You can unlock 6 total for your army. So I chose to get all 3 of my hero units.


My second game I played as the Masari who just seemed plain and simple overpowered. Now because I was playing Skirmish against AI it didn’t seem to make a that big of a difference. However I can see the Masari sort of ruining the multiplayer experience.


The Masari have 2 aspects of their army. Light and Dark. One gives them shielding but their flying units can no longer fly and they move over all slower. The biggest thing I noticed about the Masari is that they are not limited by resources. They generate their own resource without having to gather it from the world itself. Their builders can also be put on buildings to gather faster, to make the building build faster, and to make the buildings produce faster.


The Hierarchy are the third faction. While I did not play them directly my streaming partner did. They didn’t seem overpowered. Infact they seemed to be fairly balanced. However they did look pretty badass! Their units and buildings were towering mech like units. Some of the buildings were also units themselves and you could actually build upgrades and pod like structures on to them.


One thing for sure is that the three armies are very different. On top of that each have multiple play styles, strategies, and tactics. Now days you see rts games having more than three armies but play one way. So while the game might not seem as deep because of only have three armies. That is not the case.


I did have some performance issues with the game. My PC is more than capable of handling the game on max settings but I was still having extreme slow down. At points the game was moving in slow motion and I believe that was because of an extremely high unit cap (the max being 90.) The game being 7 years old and having performance issues bothered me quite a bit. However the graphics were still pretty great.


The biggest flaw of the game is the resolution settings, and well Games for Windows Live. I am happy to see it going soon. I hope that Petroglyph will take the time to patch it out of their game. This game gets overlooked a lot when RTS games get mentioned. I myself found it to be rather enjoyable. There aren’t that many great Sci-Fi games out there but this one is pretty damn good.

The score for this game was rather hard for me. I loved the graphics, but I had a ton of performance issues. Sometimes the sounds would glitch out. However at the same time I enjoyed the game a ton. The most important factor for my when playing a game is and will always be gameplay. The big question I ask myself when playing a game… Am I having fun ? My answer for this game was a big Hell yeah! So the overall score for this game is….

Another addicitve game for RTS gamers,highly recommended,as it has great graphics with stunning gameplay and battle doesn't take as long as SC:FA to win over or to be deafeated.Cheers!

Good RTS game. You can say old school with some unique features. All sides are different and require different strategies. You can control huge Hierarchy Walkers and bring havok upon your enemies, or you can use sophisticated energy based technologies of Novus robots, or the powerful weapons (and towers) of ancient Masari civilisation. Battles often look epic just because of the number of units and those gigantic walkers taking up most of the screen space. and the plot is good and develops in an interesting way letting you to play for every faction without going to the dark side.

Its just a bit....pants....nice parts to it, but all around a bit of a let down..

Dont get it on steam, you will become crazy trying to fix the game -.-
