Game freezes on startup
I've been playing this game for years (on various computers) and it's never had a problem running on my machine until recently. I play on a Windows 8 laptop I bought a year ago, and never had any problem until now. Now whenever I start the game, it crashes right away with a black screen while the game dev's logo sound plays in my earphones. It worked fine before! What changed? The only thing I can do is restart my computer if I want to play ANYTHING on Steam after it crashes. So very frustrating.

Verify the game cache.

Already did. Same result.

Edit: I've also reinstalled it twice, deleted all local files, went into the Steam folder and deleted everything, set it to windowed mode by editing the config file in the Steam\SteamApps\common\Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2\players folder. There's no difference. It freezes right away when I start it.

It used to work beautifully two weeks ago!
