I like the new map and I'm told it's actually smaller than the legacy Rust map.
However unlike the legacy map, there is no point of focus like the rad towns, roads, hangers or mutant farming areas.
So with everybody spread so much further around the map so many games I can run for 30min-1hour and not see a single other person.
There are no call outs "need help big rad" because there are no actual landmarks within a focused area just some satellites/wolf statues that don't really signify anything yet.
I really hope that plan on adding a static area for people to fight over / compete for. That was really the driving force that made rust so popular. It created all these interactions, conflicts, alliances by having a point of focus on WITHIN such a massive map.
I think we are all eager to experience a completed game, but judging from the last update it's proably going to be at least another 6 months before the game is stable and fun like legacy. I'll probably play legacy for a while, though I've heard it's infested with hackers.
But you say that are porting the legacy map over? The actual legacy map has a massive area, with the rad town/ road area the concentrates where people play. While they can still run off and build where ever they want.
I'm not judging a damn thing. I stated that I did not like how the procedural maps work. Any server functioning with a smaller population feels empty with no designated area for people to focus on farming/controlling.
The reason the old map was so successful and why Rust is hugely popular is because of all the conflict that occurs around these areas. Which then leads to wars, rivalries, alliances etc etc.
This forces things to happen instead of the running simulator that the new procedural map is.
Without spending hours lost in the middle of no-where wandering the landscape looking for someone to interact with.
Was the big draw to Rust for you the building/harvesting aspects?
Because I'm pretty sure for most people the big draw was the pvp and raiding and joining/fighting other groups.
If you just like building and farming PvE styles then yeah these random seed servers are fine.
For interaction with other people and pvp it is way too time consuming without the population concentration that was the original rad-towns.
You actually replied to us by arguing with your self. Well done. And yes, the monuments are placeholders for what I can only speculate at this point are going to be radiation/contested areas.
They just did another update on gameplay today and things have improved immensley, so I'm sure that not only will legacy be duplicated, but far surpassed in terms of fun.
I'll have to check out the update.
Was a joke, see you in game :)
