Bored of the usual Code Vein experience? If you want to change it up, this article shows the list of mods than i use on my own playthrough. Its looks great in 2023 and its also performance friendly.

How To Install A Code Vein Mod

Installing mods for Code Vein is relatively straightforward, as it just requires creating a folder dedicated to these downloads in the game's main directory.

• Find and enter Code Vein's directory
  
• Enter the Content folder
  
• Enter the Paks folder
  
• Create a ~mods folder
  
• Download a mod, which should be in a .zip file
  
• Extract the mod's contents using a suitable program (7-Zip is a great free option)
  
• Add the .pak mod file into the ~mods folder

Please note that if a mod comes with different install instructions, those should be followed instead.

Improved Visuals And Performance

Features

• Larger draw/LOD distances for objects, characters, terrain & grass... far better detailed objects & much less visible pop-in!
  
• Increased shadow-map resolution & distance.
  
• Sets various things (such as light function quality, AF...) to the highest quality UE4 provides - better quality than the games settings menu can give you!
  
• Improved TAA filtering.
  
• Changes game to use UE4's improved film tonemapper (really not sure why they didn't use this, seems way better IMO!)
  
• Increased sharpness of the games textures without needing 3rd party tools, makes background details a lot less blurry.
  
• Improved volumetric fog & particle effects - particle entity count is doubled from the standard game, making these effects look at a lot better at a slight performance cost.
  
• Can help increase performance dramatically & heavily reduce stutters during gameplay, by disabling the games texture streaming & forcing it to load all textures when first loading into a map.

Install

To install just extract the Engine.ini into the games saved config folder (%LocalAppData%\CodeVein\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\), overwriting any that already exist.

After extracting you can open the Engine.ini in a text editor and customise it how you want, delete lines of any changes you want to remove, etc.

To uninstall open the Engine.ini in a text editor and remove the [SystemSettings] section and everything below it.

UE4 ReShade - True HDR

This ReShade simulates HDR via the "True HDR" method, which first appeared in Unreal Engine 4 games and later in the ENB Series.
It's a software based method, not "Real HDR" meant for HDR monitors. There's a difference, so try not to confuse them with each other.
I used a complex array of effects that work together seamlessly, and it will add very precise depth, color, and visual effects to your game.


Install

Copy everything from the "Main files" folder to your game directory.
(e.g. ...steamapps\common\CODE VEIN\CodeVein\Binaries\Win64)

Leave the in-game brightness at default, and use Fullscreen mode.
I recommend disabling motion blur and film grain in the game options.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Always remove ReShade files from a previous install before installing.
Rename "opengl32.dll" to "d3d11.dll" if your game crashes at startup.
Disable Steam overlay if you have issues.
Disable third-party programs, and seek help in the forums if all else.

Important Notes

Do NOT use multiple custom loading screens at once.

Weapon Variety Pack

Playable Mia Karnstein

Important Notes

Before You Install

Load your save file, go to the mirror and Save Appearance. This is if you ever want to uninstall the mod you can quickly load back your character appearance.

Next, you need to have the default female character appearance with only an edit to height. I suggest quickly starting a new game, choose female, select height 0.965 and select Save Appearance to a new slot. Then exit and load into your current save and go to the mirror to Load Appearance.
Go to the Mistle to save the game and exit. Now install the mod and go to the mirror and select a costume.

Mia's Veils are Necklaces

This allows you to equip any Veil you want stat-wise in game and toggle the hide Veil option in game settings.
With that done you have Mia's Veil on (or off) and whichever Veil you want the stats of easy.

Yes, it functions properly with all the 4 Veil types; Ogre, Hounds, Stinger & Ivy.

Help, Mia's strap is clipping with the Veil!

With any "Standard" Mia costume you may notice her hanging strap clips with the Veil as does the ribbon on her back, with your selected
clothing go into Clothes Advanced Editing and toggle it off.

Masks and Mask Frames

Choose to equip her Mask & Frame or not in their respective locations.
If you want her Bloodsuck Mask that appears for drains to not be visible, install Renpyon's "aNukeMoodoBackstabMasks.pak" (Next section) Nukification mod variant.

Mod Compatibility with other Mia Mods

This should be compatible with any Mod that changes NPC Mia or her Veil, or mask, etc. It will be reflected on this Mod.
I'll now highlight that my new Mia Hair Recolors (next section) works with this mod and the mods below in combination.

A patch is available in download to have her eyes animate in cutscenes if playing as a Modded (outfit or body, not retextures like the hair mod) Mia.

Mia Hair Recolors

Recolors NPC Mia's hair into a couple of choices.
Works together with Mia costume & body mods as well as the "Playable Mia Karnstein" mod.

Customization

You may have noticed each download comes with a ____Hair.pak & a ____Highlights.pak.
I chose to do it this way to allow a degree of customization on your own part if you so choose it, here is an example:

Left is using Mia_SilverHair_P.pak & Mia_ScarletHighlights_P.pak together.

Right is using Mia_RavenHair_P.pak & Mia_VioletHighlights_P.pak together.

Experiment if you wish otherwise if you don't care about this just use both .paks from the same download together.

Io Alt Dress Playable

Makes Io's alternate outfit wearable for the player character.

This mod replaces outfit 3 with Io's alternate dress.

This outfit is fully customizable, you can change body type, skin color, and tint the outfit. There are two versions. One is the clean version, and the other is a torn, dirtier version. Only one file can be used at a time.

The only issue is the bust may clip through some armors. Other than that, I have tested the mod thoroughly. Please inform me if you run into any new issues.


To install, place the file of your choice in steamapps\common\CODE VEIN\CodeVein\Content\Paks\~mods

If a ~mods folder does not exist, simply create one.
