SteamCMD Download
  1. On the host system create a folder for SteamCMD. [E.g. C:\SteamCMD]
  2. Download SteamCMD from https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd.zip
  3. Extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP file to the directory you created.
Necesse Server Download
There are a couple ways of doing this so I'll list both methods.
Method 1:
  1. Browse to your SteamCMD folder and launch SteamCMD.exe.
  2. Login to Steam with the anonymous login.
    login anonymous
  3. Download the Necesse dedicated server.
    app_update 1169370 validate
  4. This will install the server to the default directory of C:\steamcmd\steamapps\common\Necesse Dedicated Server.
  5. Alternatively you can choose a directory by using the following.
    app_update 1169370 force_install_dir C:\Necesse validate

Method 2: Command Line
  1. Launch command prompt or PowerShell.
    Win+R, cmd or powershell
  2. Change directory to your SteamCMD folder.
    cd C:\SteamCMD
  3. Enter the following to login anonymously and download the server.
    steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 1169370 +validate +quit
  4. Or the following if you want to set your directory:
    steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir C:\Necesse +app_update 1169370 +validate +quit

Launching Necesse Server
  1. Navigate to the folder you installed to:
    Default: C:\steamcmd\steamapps\common\Necesse Dedicated Server
  2. Launch either StartServer.bat or StartServer-nogui.bat
  3. Follow the prompt to name your server.
  4. If you would like, select Custom server options?
  5. Specify the port you would like to use for the game.
  6. Set the player slots.
  7. Set a password if wanted.
  8. Set a spawn island if wanted.
  9. Set a seed if wanted.
  10. Select if you would like the guide house, useful for brand new players.
Opening/Forwarding Network Port
  1. Forward the port you specified earlier in your router.
  2. See https://portforward.com/ for more info.

For the port forwarding one, if you're willing to play with friends without the risks of port forwarding I recommend using Logmein Hamachi: just create a network and let your friends join it by putting ID and password, then just host the world locally and they'll be able to join as if you were in LAN
