How do you extract it? I have no idea, but I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials out there.
But before you do anything with it I'd suggest asking for permission to edit the file, as it seems that's what you're planning to do. (Plagiarism is bad )

I'm pretty sure I've done this method before with my map, but because I have the memory of a sea anemone I don't remember how to extract the GMA, but I'm 90% sure I used the software in this video. (BSP source)
to find a map uploaded ahead of the workshop update, grab the ID of the addon and search for a matching folder in "4000".
