Yes that would be ideal for this mod to be client side.
Unfortunately Space Engineers doesn't have such thing as client side mods. Only thing you can do is to manually override game's textures.
Maybe I could make a guide for that or some tool that does it for you.

You'd think this would be by default. One less mod on the server is a good thing.
I'd be very interested in anything you come up with :)

There are client-side mods that are called plugins like the jump drive selector one.

I've heard of Torch dedicated server plugins, but nothing about client side.

That's a plugin not a mod.

I am working on making this possible in Plugin Loader. Right now, the loader doesn't support files other than cs scripts.

Well my mod doesn't need to load non c# files.
It just changes paths to icons in definitions through C# API. Modded icons are accessible in the workshop/content/... directory so it should work.
I'll look into it.

If the plugin is posted on the workshop yes. That's not the best way and has lots of problems on its own. Instead, GitHub is preferred. Plugin Loader downloads and compiles the cs files direct from the repository. It doesnt download any of the other files yet. I recommend joining the discord linked in the description of the loader if you want to know more
