District Service Limit

FIX FOR GARBAGE TRUCK pick-ups NOT BEING SUFFICIENT TO KEEP THE DISTRICT CLEAN.
I figured out (with GSTEIGERT's much-appreciated help) how to solve this problem and wanted to share it with all of you who are having the same problem.

I was constantly getting 40 percent or so red buildings (demanding garbage pickup and getting ready to abandon). Couldn't figure out how to stop it so went straight to GSTEIGERT and asked for help. He/(she??) was very sweet and didn't mind helping at all. G came up with a simple solution that I'm ashamed to say I should have been able to figure out for myself. Here it is.

In each of your districts, place 1 to 3 Landfills (depending on your District's size) RIGHT NEXT to the Incinerator that is handling the district's garbage.

Put a 2-way road in a U-shape around the landfills and incinerator, connecting just at the beginning and ending of the space where they are sitting on their road. Also place a small u-shaped road on the other side of their road, just outside the space on the road they are sitting on, so the two U-shaped roads form a sort of S with the Landfill / Incinerator road running from the top to bottom of the S. Leo.Pham~~ asked for a screenshot of this so I'm placing a link to that here:

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/156905022679429571/D8E6C0C5FE1E340EBD0BC3B83B994BBBFC348686/

These u-shaped alleys give the garbage trucks an immediate turn-around alley when they've emptied so they don't have to travel out away from the area to turn around and come back - saves lots of time and makes the emptying much more efficient.

Even though the Incinerator will not put out enough trucks - honestly, sometimes only 1 or 2 - the Landfills will almost always put out all 15 of theirs.

When each landfill fills up, set it to empty and it will empty to the incinerator that is on the road close to it. Set one of the other Landfills in the road next to the incinerator to start picking up while the first one is emptying.

Do this again with a third Landfill if the first one has not emptied completely before the second one fills.

When the last Landfill is picking up garbage, and the first Landfill has emptied completely, you can set the first Landfill to pick-up, and set whichever of the landfills that is most full to empty-out, and start the process all over again. They always seem to empty only to the incinerator, not other landfills, so that's a plus.

Now, obviously you have to be very alert to be sure you turn those landfills from empty-out to pick-up and back again, or garbage will start building up behind your back if a landfill gets filled up while you are not watching, but if you are willing to check back with all the landfills in each district on a periodic basis, then this fixes the problem.

Hope this helps someone.

It would be much appreciated if you had a screenshot of how these roads are built. Thank you so much

@leo.pham~~
Hi Leo. I'll try to find the city I was testing this in --- have gone on to a completely different format already, on another map that doesn't use DISTRICTS to contain the services - just testing out a theory.

But I'll check to see if I still have one of em and if I do, I'll screenshot it for you. If not, I'll set a group of roads up again that way just to take the screenshot - in the city I'm on now. One way or another I'll get the shot to ya.

Just give me a day or two --- today the hubby has me and a lot of other family members outside doing "honeydews" -- when he calls, I jump......jumpin high and long today so will have to take care of this for you tomorrow but be patient, I'll get it to ya.

The link to the screenshot is now in my description above ..... thanks for suggesting this - it hadn't occurred to me that - a picture is worth a thousand words - but you were right in asking for one.
Hope this helps.
