Late game economy tips? My economy is stagnant despite my empire expanding
So I have the entire eastern Med as the byzantines but Im finding it extremely cumbersome if not impossible to expand my economy to where I feel my empire should be. Im finding that regions that I conquer (like greece, anatolia) almost all the settlements need garrison IV and Chapel III on top of an aqueduct or a tavern, and they still slowly rebel. So I have one small army every 6 or 7 towns constantly putting down uprisings everywhere but that means almost all the money goes towards building maintanance.

In fact, the vast majority of my money comes from foreign trade. My empire would crumble without it. Im finding that Im going into debt as I expand into regions like italy and north africa because im essentially destroying my trading partners and switching them for rebellious areas with little economic value, like pretty much everywhere in my empire.

I could go for interest-based economy with the jewish settlements, but the key issue is that my own empires internal economy cannot support itself despite being half the Med, which shouldnt really be the case.. I am building up those rare resources and mines wherever I go but its still not enough for it to be economically viable to keep expanding.

Unless im missing something major im thinking im done with this mod as I dont think the economic stuff is sufficiently balanced.

So yeah I give up. I think the internal economy meta is that your supposed to put a building like an economic one or two per settelemnt then put a silver mint to have an adjacent province bonus. The problem is that on top of the garrisons and churches you have to pay for, farms just dont produce enough food to really keep up with the economic buildings and settlement upgrades and other random buldings that need food. on top of that, happiness penalties are too high on economic buildings.

Meaning that after you invest 10s of thousands of $$ in EACH AND EVERY one of your settlements, youll barely be better off as if you hadnt upgraded anything at all. Buildings are just too expensive and their bonuses and drawbacks all seem to cancel each other out. Settelment upgrades consume HUGE amounts of food with little benefit. youd be better off not upgrading any settlements at all I think.

after a certain size, your empire just cant really sustain itself, around 60% of my revenu is foreign trade and 35% of my expenditures are building maintenance.

every city I conquer actually takes 2000 more ish revenue to run it not to mention the 10s of thousands I have to pour into developing them, which are now completely unavailable.

Building managemnet for this mod is completely busted but it only becomes apparent after the mid game

You have to parallel the real world where you industrialize and live with pestilence for a bit to build up a treasury and then you switch entirely into Jewish banking and entertainment.
