EMD GP7 - Soo Line

Descriere
This mod adds an EMD GP7 with Soo Line railroad livery for 3 eras:

- Black and Yellow Livery: Available: 1950-1953
- Maroon and Yellow Livery: Available: 1954-1960
- Red and White Livery: Available: 1961-1988

The EMD GP7 is a four-axle road switcher diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and General Motors Diesel between October 1949 and May 1954. The EMD GP7 was the first model in EMD'S GP (General Purpose) series of locomotives.

Technical Details:
- Max Speed: 65 mph (105 kph)
- Power: 1,500 horsepower (1,119 kW)
- Tractive Effort: 61,500 lbf (274 kN)
- Availability: based on era (see above)

The name 'Soo Line' derives from the phonetic spelling of 'Sault' in the original railroad name of Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad (MSIP&SSM).

Though the EMD GP7 was built from 1949 through 1954, many were repainted over their life spans. Therefore I have setup the availability to reflect the eras in which each color scheme (or livery) was used. As such, some of the engines in this mod are available long after EMD ended production in 1954.

In 1989, Soo Line adopted the 'Candy Apple' red color scheme. I have not included it because I have not run across an EMD GP7 with this color scheme. If anyone can point to a photo of a GP7 with this color scheme, please share and I'll be happy to include it in this mod.

Notes:
- This mod adds new vehicles to the game without altering anything currently existing in the game.
- This is a repaint of Urban Games EMD GP9. Without model rework, there are some inaccuracies. One big omission is the winterization hatch which most Soo Line GP7s and GP9 have on top.
- It seems obvious to me that the generic EMD GP9 is based on Soo Line #559 which was restored and is used for rides in Osceola, WI. Funny thing though, my research points to Soo Line #559 being a GP7. That is why I made a EMD GP7 repaint instead of a GP9.

Known Issues:
- The in-cab camera points backwards. This is to do with original model being oriented long hood forward.
- The multi-unit icon shows everything on 2nd unit backwards, including logos and wording. This is because game is using only one icon image and flipping it for the 2nd unit.
- Adding a custom color to unit may look strange. This is because custom colors are not intended, yet that feature wasn't disabled in this mod.

Dislaimer:
Use this mod at your own risk. I accept no responsibility for damages to software or hardware.

@scottsshanna - I took a quick look at the links you provided and did a little more research. There are two problems I see: (a) Most WC GP7 and GP9's are low-hood. I only do repaints at this time, so that is a no-go. (b) The one high-hood I see is wearing previous owner's colors, with a little "WC" on the side. Not sure you want that.

Might I suggest an EMD SD40-2 in WC colors?

@scottsshanna - I understand. I'll have a look.

@wabbithunta - Thanks you. I've never used wikiwand, but I use the other sites regularly when researching for a mod. The first two links do show another engine type in the Candy Apple Red color scheme, but I haven't seen an EMD GP7 in that scheme. Quite possible they never painted them in that scheme, but I really don't know.

@jw1987 - I'm happy to take requests. I've added Louisville & Nashville, Southern, and Norfolk & Western to my list.

Would L&N/Southern/N&W versions be possible?
