Description
Class 31 Base

Build: 5.X

Needs an update, since 5.X had no Ventilators yet!

While there are so many very nice SciFi replicas of Star Wars, Star Trek and Babylon 5 in the Empyrion workshop already, one thing was missing completely. Talking about that, some friends said, this might be some impossible task. Seeing all those huge Star Destroyers, Enterprises, Death Stars and even this real great Shadow Battlecrab of Arturius 1967, I decided to give it a try.

Now it is finished! Built block by block on my own, without using any 3D import.

The Babylon 5 Space Station

Babylon 5, the Space Station of the same named SciFi TV series (1993 - 1998)
in a 1:20 scale. Originally 8km long and about 840m in diameter.

"It was the dawn of the Third Age of Mankind, ten years after the Earth-Minbari War. The Babylon Project was a dream given form. Its goal: to prevent another war by creating a place where Humans and aliens could work out their differences peacefully. It's a port of call – home away from home for diplomats, hustlers, entrepreneurs, and wanderers. Humans and aliens wrapped in two million, five-hundred thousand tons of spinning metal, all alone in the night. It can be a dangerous place, but it's our last best hope for peace. This is the story of the last of the Babylon stations. The year is 2258. The name of the place is Babylon 5."
– Commander Jeffrey Sinclair

Class 31 (new)
42.000 Blocks

Although it is often not an easy task to break down a scale of a far larger object to Empyrion maxium sizes, it is really tough to get as much details as possible to the inside. I tried to do so and hope the Babylon 5 fans will find a lot of stuff at least in the same sector of this 1:20 replica of the station.

Where shall I start? Well, main difference on the outside are the hangar doors, where the Starfury Fighters (or other SVs) can enter and exit the station. The scale made it impossible to implement the real "Cobra Bays" for the Starfurys. But at least I designed my own Starfury Fighter fitting into the hangar here.

The Station is subdivided into sectors. You will find a color code on one of the screenshots.

Blue Sector: Observation Dome (command centre), Starfury Crew Ready Room, Officer Quarters, Medlab One (medical center)

Red Sector: Hangar (for up to 8 Starfurys or other SVs), Habitat, Casino, Bazaar, Bars / Clubs, Hotel, Medic Station, upper Core Shuttle Station

Green Sector: Fresh Air Restaurant, Garden Area, Core Shuttle Tube

Brown Sector: lower Core Shuttle Station, Facility Area

Grey Sector: "Fusion"-Generator Rooms

Yellow Sector: "Coolant System" and main Fuel Storage (36 T3 tanks, 12 are hidden elsewhere)

While the original Babylon 5 has a rotating tube with a gravity holding the people on the inside of that tube as floor I decided to implement this only in the green sector of the station for a better look at the mass of growing plots. The walls and ceiling here shall indicate the gardens, and buildings built along on the inside of the tube. The other sectors have a different gravity direction.

The "Heart" of the Station is the Core Shuttle. The real Babylon 5 has a 4km long shuttle line. So I had to build this too. The Core shuttle itself is a SV that has to be placed inside the tube. Once you jump down from red sector into the tube you wont fall far because the different gravity direction of the green sector will catch you. Place the shuttle inside as seen on the screenshots. If this wont work, just remove some ceiling and side parts of the shuttle tube and replace them afterwards.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I tried to make an import of this one but it was just too large for my PC to process.

Shame there is a build limit. I'd like to see some way of removing those limits so we can build full scale stuff like B5. I'd also like to see some way of having revolving stations to create gravity along the whole of the inside walls just like B5 would have.

Building something like this is a process of bringing down the original size to a scale fitting into the size limitations. This is nothing of try and error but just a matter of counting blocks.
