Luminant Theme

Description
Beta version 0.1.4

This mod adds a new theme, “Luminant”. Luminant heroes are able to activate Radiant Form during combat (cooldown 4 to 6 turns), gaining powerful abilities for one turn, but the theme pieces (mostly) do not do anything while Radiant Form is inactive.

Note: it is currently in beta status. Feel free to leave feedback about bugs, balance, writing, etc. The mod is also (or will soon be) available on Nexus Mods and GitHub[github.com].

Luminant Theme
With the luminant aura (head slot) and both luminant arms and legs, a hero gain the following stats and abilities (mouse over small black box to show spoiler):

  • +4 Recovery Rate (always active)
  • Radiant Form (free action, six turn cooldown) Activate to allow use of Radiant Blast, Radiant Beam, and Flash Step until the start of your next turn.
  • Radiant Blast (single action, ends turn) An area of effect melee magic damage attack that deals 3 to 4 + ¾(Bonus Damage + Potency) damage and blinds on stunt. Base range is 1.6 tiles and base area is one tile, but both range and AoE width benefit from Long Reach.
  • Radiant Beam (single action, ends turn) An area of effect ranged magic damage attack that deals 2 to 3 + ¾(Bonus Damage + Potency) damage and blinds on stunt. Base range is 6.6 and benefits from Long Reach and Sharpshooter.
  • Flash Step (swift action, no cooldown): Teleport up to 3 + Potency/2 tiles away. Can be used while pinned, but does not clear the pinned status.

Abilities
Radiant Form+: Reduces the cooldown of Radiant Form by 2 turns. Radiant Blast and Radiant Beam become single actions instead of turn-ending actions (no cooldown).

Theme Skins
There are 10 theme skins with different colors: the base theme, which is yellow/gold, plus red, orange, green, cyan, blue, magenta, white, shadowy, and one that is tintable based on the hero’s hair color. All theme skins aside from the tintable one have particle effects for Radiant Beam and Radiant Blast that match the color of the theme skin.

Events
The mod adds one “Arrive at Hostile Site” (pre-battle) event, which provides an option to gain the luminant theme, a corresponding battlemap and “Mission Victory” event, and one “Mortal Choice” event. The pre-battle event requires a party of at least three heroes and can only happen during chapter 3 or later. One of the heroes needs to have a “bookish” score of at least 60 OR have the “Curious” hook OR have the “Lucky” hook and one of the heroes needs to be eligible to receive the theme (these may be the same hero). To be eligible for the theme, a hero must have the head and both arm and leg theme slots available (i.e., not filled by another theme), but the theme can be freely combined with themes that use other slots or no slots (e.g. wings/tails).

The events do have personality-specific dialogue, but to a much lesser extent as compared to the base game. Please let me know if you feel one of your heroes says something out of character and I will try to think of a way to improve it.

Mod conflicts
Drauven PCs: Drauven heroes work mechanically with the theme, but I currently have no visuals for them, so drauven with the theme will appear to have missing limbs, and there are a few text inconsistencies.

Anything that modifies Blazing Sword: This mod makes a minor change to Blazing Sword to allow use with Radiant Blast. I’m not sure if any other mods change this effect, but if they do, it could cause an issue with one of the mods.

There may be conflicts with other mods that change "deathChoice_leftArm_generic1" or "deathChoice_rightArm_generic1". If your mod or one you know of modifies this, please let me know so I can check whether there is a conflict.

Planned updates
  • Add secondary theme upgrade ability
  • Update art assets for shrine in comic to be more unique/appropriate
  • Add art assets for/fix compatibility with Drauven PCs
  • Add theme shrine for Omenroad

Just pushed a fix for an issue where a previously lost arm restored into a luminant arm would not be able to wield weapons/off hand items.

Hello! I just discovered (and hopefully fixed) an issue where a hero with luminant arms would still be eligible for the mortal choice events "deathChoice_leftArm_generic1" or "deathChoice_rightArm_generic1". This could result in a hero losing the ability to wield 2-handed weapons or off-hand items. If you have existing heroes affected by this, it can be fixed by deleting the hidden history line "**maimed_leftArm" or "**maimed_rightArm", as appropriate. Please let me know if you need help with this, and sorry about the trouble.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Great job on this. It is a nice looking balanced transformation that still allows you to use weapons. This mod is really underrated right now.

@Kinasin: If you already have a legacy hero with the theme, you can bring them into the Omenroad campaign or a challenge run and it should work fine, even if you replace some of the theme limbs. However, it is currently not possible to add new theme shrines without overwriting the whole campaign/run file, so there is no Luminant Shrine at this time.

does this work with the new expansion?

I reduced the opacity for most of the limb auras. They are still pretty bright; otherwise they ended up looking too dark in low light areas, but I hope they are a bit less washed out in bright areas now.

Thanks for the feedback! It is already an aura, actually. I'll experiment with toning it down when I get the chance.

yeah, maybe an aura effect would be better? idk

@JD: Do you think it's too bright? It was challenging to get it to look decent in all the different lighting conditions, and I'm not sure how well I did. I could try lowering the opacity.
