Description
Expanded Preset Empires aims to increase the richness of your galaxy by adding a range of new and interesting empires that each have a chance to spawn upon galaxy creation. Battle the fearsome Risen, kowtow before the mighty Scorching Kingdom or befriend the enigmatic Scintillating Entity, this mod adds 47 new preset empires to the galaxy, each with a range of ethics, civics and government types.

This version of the mod is not Ironman compatible. For the version that is go here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2949350556

Why should I get this mod?
Do you find that the computer-generated empires blur together or feel undeveloped? I wanted to add flavour to my Stellaris playthroughs by supplementing generic auto produced nations with a choice selection of hand-crafted empires. This mod follows the Stellaris Plus design philosophy with the aim of a small change that keeps the heart of the Stelaris experience but builds on top of it in regards to character and personality. Expanded Preset Empires brings the list of preset empires up from 28 to 75.

FAQ's

Will this mod replace the computer-generated empires in my galaxy?
No, none of these empires are guaranteed to spawn. This means for the most part your galaxies will look the same except with one or two hand crafted empires mixed in. It is possible none of these empires will spawn upon galaxy creation.

I use one of the species portraits included here and don't want a duplicate species in my galaxy, is that a problem?
No, these empires are prevented from spawning if another empire shares the same species model.

Does this mod require DLC?
No. While this mod was built with all DLC’s in mind it will still work no matter what you own as the empires requiring the unowned packs will just not spawn. As example if the "Humanoids Species Pack" is not owned the "Pact of Ice and Stone" empire will not appear in game as its main species uses a humanoid model from this pack, however both "House Khublen" and "Refuge", who use the humanoid ship set will still appear but will use the mammalian ship set instead.

What is the difference between the Ironman and non-Ironman versions of this mod?
The Ironman version of this mod only contains the additional preset empires with no other additions, while the non-Ironman compatible version contains some additional code that mildly augments galaxy generation for increased flavour.

As an example, the three empires of ‘The 2nd Quul Empire’, ‘Birthright’, and ‘Quulimar’ are all the Remnant successor states of a once great Quul empire that dominated the galaxy before eventually falling into a dark age. If the Ironman compatible version of the mod is used these empires will spawn like any other standard empire with the Remnant origin.

However, if the non-Ironman compatible version is used, if any of the three empires spawn (whether selected by the player, or spawned in randomly as part of normal galaxy generation) then each of the other two empires will also spawn in the galaxy, as well a number of primitive worlds of the Quul species (dependent on the selected game rule for pre-FTL civilisations).

“This civilization once populated much of the galaxy in a near mythical Golden Age of Science and Technology, then Old Night descended. Now, many dark millennia after the fall, their race lie scattered and broken, spread out across the vast stretches of an unfriendly galaxy.”

What are the compatibility issues with this mod?
This mod should be compatible with anything, all this mod does is add some extra preset empires to the folder as well as some some solar system initializers. It should be 100% compatible with all other mods, including those that also add extra preset empires or mods that effect galaxy generation.

What mods does this require?

Hi @Saint-Roch sorry about the delayed response, I completely missed this Steam notification. The mod is completely valid with the current game version.

This mod will work fine with Bountiful Rooms, however while Bountiful Rooms does use a lot of the same images from Diverse Rooms, it uses different codes to identify them. This means that while the mod will work and the empires spawn normally, they will use vanilla rooms instead of their custom backgrounds.

Instead, they will just show as the basic room on the empire select screen, and then when they spawn as AI in game, they will use whatever the vanilla default room is for their AI Personality. So to give some examples, Birthright will spawn in as the AI with that room with the bone trophies in as they are a Purity Assembly, while Refuge will spawn in with that federation’ish looking room because they are a Moral Democracy.

Would this work with Bountiful Rooms instead of Diverse room, and is it stil valid with 3.11 ?

@pignans Very cool! Perhaps I can help you by writing a few backstories. If you want ofc, I don't want to cause any conflict with your established lore or ideas

I’ve also rearranged the displayed in game order the empires, so all the empires with something in their bios are at the top. Here is example of one of the ones I just added.

Empyrean:
Born of stardust orbiting in the cold light of stellar bodies, the Celestials evolved in the hard vacuum of space. Empyrean teach that they are the children of the universe itself, true divine beings of void and star.
For these reasons the Celestials look down on lesser races, for what can those who have never communed with the cosmos understand of beauty and wisdom? Those who have never felt the blessings of solar wind on their naked skin, or witnessed the raw majesty of suns undiluted by atmosphere or void-suit.

Cheers for the comment. I’d been putting off the bios for a while now, and this comment gave me a nudge I needed. I just tend to be much more judgemental of my writing which has been holding me up.

I’ve now added some new bios for the Scintillating Entity, Empyrean, Risen, Iron Host, Prosperity Initiative, Pact of Ice and Stone, Streik Grand Admiralty, Indulgence, and the Fungool Slavers. I want to start making more of an effort to get to rest, even if it’s just adding one or two lines for flavour, I think it adds so much.

Bro, when I saw the Vrath High Command I was a bit suprised, since 'Vrath' this is the exact same name I gave to my own custom species 2 years ago. I wasn't even aware of this mod at the time. Funny, isn't it?

Are you considering writing the backstories for the rest of the empires? Even just a short synopsis that would allow the player to get more acquainted with the lore of an empire

@TheIndian_07 I have edited the mod so it no longer requires Planetary Diversity. I have also made an side mode that is Ironman compatible: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2949350556

I know I’ve also said that for a while I will update their bios, I just have a much higher barrier to what I consider good enough writing to release. In the meantime, I will leave you guys with the bio of one of the new empires, the remnant, driven assimilator, ‘The Forgotten’:

“Many miles down in the detritus of the ancient ecumenopolis scavengers awoke something buried in the dark, an ancient horror from a forgotten age.
It began with disappearances, extraction parties wouldn't return, settlements in the lower hive stopped communicating. By the time anyone realised the danger it was too late.
The people of Hive Nexora are gone now. It's men, women, and children absorbed into the quiet order of The Forgotten, their minds and personalities erased, their bodies grey puppets of flesh. The world whole under its incomprehensible will, The Forgotten now turns its billion eyes towards the void, seeking to bring its quiet order to the stars themselves."

Could there be a version without Planetary Diversity? It's because I use Real Space New Frontiers.
