The Beginning of this Era, pt.I

Half a century has passed since the portals closed, and things are finally looking up. But it wasn't always like that. In the beginning, war raged for a good ten years as borders wer pushed backwards and forwards, and humans and gnomes were forced from their homes. When there wasn't war, the remainder of the Soul Energy would surge the land ravaging rivers, crops and cities. It took a while, but things eventually settled. The Resistance caved in and accepted its fate: these people were here to stay, and there was no way out of this havoc unless all of them were content. So, at year 13 since the War of Souls, representatives from every Tribe gathered up at the old capital of Delasphos ; Valnor, to talk about the necessary peace.

Year 0, Day 0, Minute 0, Second 0. It was during Nimelle's Awakening ceremony ; celebrating her imminent rise to the rank of Arch,Sorceress, that the afterlife as we knew it changed forever. Within a few seconds, there was a flash of light, an explosion and a blast wave of soul energy expanding outwards from M' Or, devastating anything it came in contact with. The closest planets, detonated instantly. On Delasphos, terraforming began. The earth split in half, mountains emerged out of nowhere, lakes started spiraling upwards into the air, mountains turned into volcanoes and in certain places time stood still. All 3 Arch Sorcerers were present ; and they agreed on one thing; we were all doomed. Yet, defiant as ever, Nimelle hugged her best friend, held her tears inside, and calmly levitated high above everyone else. She took a deep breath, and saved us with the humblest of spells ; a Drain from her left hand absorbed half of the shockwave from M' Or's energy, and she redirected that to her right hand, chanelling a super, charged Shield to block the rest. Despite the success of her insane plan, the pain of having M' Or's energy course through her body must have been beyond excruciating, because all of us still hear her screams ; and as a testament, we renamed the summit of this mountain accordingly. No longer entirely human, but more of a demi, godess, she held on long enough to save us, before fainting into a long comma.

Year 0 of the new calendar of Delasphos. The War of Souls begins and ends on the same day. They say history is written by the victors. So what happens when both sides lose? This War left the entire Mother Realm devastated, and those who fought in it, perished instantly. Those studying the Astral Planes have gathered only bits and pieces of what happened that fateful day.A beam of searing light, of pure energy, was fired into M' Or, the Heart of the Realm. And then, Chaos. You see, M' Or is the very reason the afterlife functions as it does. A being of highly concentrated and pure Soul Energy, it powers Aeth, the Soul Stream which leads the dead to their respective planets, and it keeps those planets anchored closely so that it may act as an energy source for them. When it was shot, it started leaking at an incredible rate.Nearby planets detonated due to the overflow , planets far away withered and died, unable to sustain their souls. That is when the human Arch,Sorceress,to,be, Nimelle Dios, stepped up far beyond the call of her duty.

The Astral Planes of Leth, the Mother Realm, is an entire universe, unknown to anyone that still has a breath in their body; for only the Souls of those who died may enter. In its center lies M' Or, the Heart of the Mother Realm ; a being made of pure, condensed Soul Energy. Following their orbital course around it, are the many planets of this ghostly realm. Depending on their size, each of them homes the Souls of those who lived in a certain planet, galaxy, or entire reality. Delasphos is an exoplanet, one of the smaller ones, and it's the home of all those who were once on Earth. It is inhabited by the reincarnations of these souls ; Humans and Gnomes. Or, to be precise, it used to. Everything changed when the War of Souls began.

The Vois

Nimelle might have acted fast in protecting us from most of the shockwave of M' Or's Soul Energy, but it still managed to scar Delasphos permanently. Many forest species died either to mutation or to the inter, species slaughtering that took place during the crazy decades following the War of Souls. Besides Dragonoids and Aaracocras, Vois were among the few that survived. We know little of these furry creatures and the relations they had with the original residents of Delasphos. Mainly legends of some 'Children of the Forest', described as playful, curious and inherently kind ; despite being natural, born pranksters. These children suffered a terrible fate during the War of Souls ; infected by M' Or's Soul Energy, and exposed to its residue for decades, they grew addicted to it.As time went on, the energy around their homes dissipated, leaving them hungry for a new source. That's when they grew irresistibly attracted to a powerful scent, and followed it from the forest all the way to the Dugen Icelands. The closer they got to the tundra, the harder it became to reach it, and many died in this migration ; yet a few finally reached a secluded mansion in the middle of this icy garden. There, they laid eyes on a beautiful hooded figure, that was beaming with more Soul Energy than they'd ever experiences. They knew they would never leave Nimelle's side again.

Wandering Souls

Factions were born out of necessity, in a time of war, panic and chaos.Trust was a hard currency at that point. Five decades since, and those wounds have closed , but the scars remain. Factions are still mostly made up of the Tribes that formed them, and are not very open to outsiders. Yet, at about a 1 to 10 ratio in the main cities and 1 to 20 or less in the further ones, you will come across people from a Tribe that would normally belong to another Faction. It is usually curiosity, love or just self, preservation that brought them there. Although these immigrants are never treated aggressively (thanks to the Clover Treaty), they are almost always considered second, rate citizens. To what extent, that depends on the Faction's hospitality and way of life.

Nimelle

Nimelle Dios was going to be the first Arch,Sorceress in the history of Delasphos, a title traditionally held by men. Instead, she became a demi, godess and saved our planet. She was a kind, hearted, ever, curious sorceress. Understood by a handful of people, beloved by her two friends, and shunned by most of her colleagues for her unorthodox yet highly efficient methods. She protected Delasphos by absorbing M' Or's Soul Energy, but sacrificed her humanity in doing so. She now holds powers beyond her own control, and her consciousness is often adrift. Fearing the worst, she transported the manor of her old master to the Duggen Icelands, where no road can reach it, and no eye can see it, and secluded herself in it. Despite her distance, we are still at the mercy of her whims ; when she's calm, the sky is clear. When she's happy, the earth grows. When she's sad, the atmosphere gets heavy. And if she gets angry.. volcanoes happen. So everyone is working together to keep her content.

The Four-Leafed Clover

'Here reigns the King of Valnor, first of his name and leader of men.' This epigraph once stood on the entrance to Valnor, the old Human capital. The city held strong for 12 years, and served as a neutral place for negotiations throughout that time. Yet, on the 13th year, it was defiled.Sever Pott the Fourth, King of the Humans, tooks his own life alongside everyone else's by blowing up the city when negotiations for a Peace treaty went awry. When the four Factions agreed to the creation of a Peacekeeping force, Valnor seemed like the perfect place. Rebuilding a piece of the old world, shaping it like a four, leafed Clover to symbolize the unity, yet discreteness of the four factions, it would serve as a beacon of hope for a more fortunate future. That force was named the High Order, and was acknowledged by the Treaty as the fifth Faction, neutral to all, and tasked solely to keep the peace. As of year 48, the city is fully built, and its citizens (mostly soldiers, builders and their families) are eager to host the 10,year anniversary of the Clover Treaty.

Brick and Order

Besides being a symbol for peace, Clover also houses Delasphos's peacekeeping corps, the High Order. Each Faction contributes Soldiers to the High Order; enough that a balance of powers is preserved. It was agreed that the High Order should be powerful enough to protect any Faction from attacks of the other three, while at the same time not be powerful enough that all four Factions together would not be able to overtake it. Of course, some members of the High Order also take jobs on the side, mainly as Guardians in the Knights for Hire Federation. After the city is built, the other four Federations are planned to move their Headquarters here as well, although no one knows what the Assassins' will look like or where it's going to be. The Order and the Knights for Hire currently resides within Clover, as it is being built and have a symbiotic relationship with the Builders' Association ; one of the groups who benefitted most from this Treaty, as they were the sole contractors responsible for building an entire city. This steady amount of work, has brought many seeking to earn an honest living, despite of their origin. The result is a safe, grand city, home to people from all eight Tribes.

A Monarch, chosen by her People

Of all the five Factions, the Resistance has the only claim on Delasphos's land, history and resources that can be considered 'objective' ; they were here first. The Faction is made up of the remainder of Delasphos's original population, Humans and Gnomes mixed with a few Half,Orcs and Half,Elves ; either the seed of rape, or of unwavering romance, flowering despite its odds. The people are ruled by a single Monarch, advised by his small council and the guild masters. Though systematically close to Tyranny, the Monarchy of the Resistance is built on Trust and necessity for quick decisions. Amyra, the current leader, was the second in command during the Resistance's battle to preserve what territorry it could. Relentless yet kind, she played a key role in establishing the Clover treaty during the second negotiations, despite what had happened during the first, and insisted on an open, doors policy towards those who seeked to join the Resistance, despite their Tribe. This openness has led to a flourishing of Trade, Science, Arts and, since nothing creative runs on an empty stomach, the Guilds make a habbit of paying well for Delasphos's best chefs, making the capital of the Resistance a foodie's paradise.
2.4%

Guilds and Politics

Currently Amyra is favored by enough citizens to ensure stability, and her policy of welcoming outsiders, is widely respected. This mentality has attracted Tradesmen, Scientists, Artists and Chefs from all around Delasphos, to the Resistance's capital. The Tradesman's guild mainly wants to keep the peace, yet it is known to strong arm the other Factions, especially when it comes to basic resources produced by the Resistance's vast agriculture practice. Of course, they do it all within the extent of the law. The Guild of Arcane Arts has great prestige due to their study of Delasphos's elemental imbalance, and along with the Inventor's Guild their official mission is to make life better for everyone on this planet; but every coin has a flip side. Regardless, they steer away from politics. Besides the functional, the Resistance has a knack for the aesthetical as well. The Guild of Expression is known for nurturing an individual's latent talents, which becomes apparent during the many festivals that happen within the cities and villages. In most of these, commoners get a chance to taste what is considered the most divine food of the Realm ; normally affordable only by the privileged few. This culmination of guilds, is born and gives rise to the multi, cultural environment Amyra always envisioned.

Clipped Wings, High Spirits

Right after the portal closed, energy storms ravaged the skies. Thousands of birds and dragons felt their very souls being sucked clean out of their bodies. While the Storm of Souls raged, ever so often a dragon or eagle soul would gather all of its strength and bolt its way down to the surface, desperate to find another host. Many monstrosities were born that night and many died instantly. Yet, the next morning marked the birth of the first Dragonborn and Araakokras. Dragon and eagle souls, fused with potent human bodies in perfect sync. No longer able to fly, they took shelter in the forest, and as they grew, they realized they could now think; they could hypothesize, and deduce, they could plan ahead. They took over the forest, and vowed to destroy those who would seek to further upset the fauna and flora of this planet. They became Evolution's Assault, and as a Faction they were present in both negotiation attempts. Since the Clover Treaty, they started bartering in raw materials, and most of the wood and stone that was used in building Clover came from them. They are also experts when it comes to matters of wildlife and weather, and their help has been critical to anticipating and preventing damage from torrential storms.

Stronger Together

With nature's wisdom and love for peace as well as their ability to survive in harsh circumstances, the citizen's of Nature's assault found refuge in the abandoned mountain cities and claimed them for themselves. They have a council that is selected through voting and that decides for their course of action. They despise death yet they want their security. Although the council decides important issues, everyone is at liberty to create and manage a town so there are many clans, some of them rather influential. The Res R' Cher clan focuses on studying nature in attempts to control the wild weather for the faction's benefit. Their connection with the forest is second to none. Equally strong, for different reasons, The Hut Ur Khul are rather aggressive , a bit outcasted yet respected by the rest of the clans, they revere the Faction's propsperity above all and are often seen as the shield of the forest.

Gods and Councils

Despite their differences, the Elves share a common leadership structure; a High Priest, followed by a Council of the Tribe's wisest. Each council meets behind closed doors regarding most issues. Internally, decisions are made by the noble families who are still influential and whose bloodlines go back to before the storm of souls. During times of war, martial law is enforced, and both councils are replaced by the Council of the Seven Blades; a joint military council tasked with assuring the faction's dominance. It's not uncommon to launch provocative or under, cover missions against other Factions, but evidence of this is hard to come by ; still, everyone knows and this has fueled the distrust towards the Elven Pact. As a result, emotions of the citizens are split; some believe it necessary, others see it as an obstacle to long, term peace. What's certain is that Inl and Onf Thenmar are not very often visited by other Factions.

All Kinds of Laws

Every Faction abides to the Clover Treaty; a set of rules that take precedence above all else. But, the Elven Pact is a Faction which besides external struggles, suffers great internal tension as well. Two Tribes that have hated eachother for centuries, have now been forced by circumstances to share a city, and they've so far managed it without a civil war breaking out. This is thanks to a 3,tiered set of rules; Elven Laws, Divine Commands and Council Orders. Elven Laws revolve around peace, keeping between elves.Steal, lose a hand.Attack lose an arm. Kill, lose a head. This is enforced by the Capital Guard ; a military force who is bound by powerful oaths to both High Elvish and Dark Elvish gods to uphold these laws, oaths sealed by the Priests of each Pantheon. Divine Commands are who believe in them, and are offered as a guide to avoid divine punishment. Still, openly disrespecting a religion will get you face to face with the respective High Priest to decide your fate. Council Orders can only be refuse if the receiver believes they contradict the Clover Treaty, Elven Laws or their Tribe's Divine Commands. The Capital Guard or the appropriate High Priest judges the grounds for their disobedience and acts accordingly. This tight system of Laws makes most of Delasphos's inhabitants feel unwelcome at Inl and Onf Thenmar, and only visit if they have business with the Elven Pact.

'When our world collided with Delasphos, our two rival nations set aside their primitive clash and the years of frustrations. Bravely, we hoped against all hope, as there was so much at stake. Our very freedom was up against the ropes. The crowd understood that it was not Dark versus High, just Elf against Elf. And that neither of our nations could stand alone.' Verses by Thaduin, a survivor that witnessed the Truce between Dark and High Elves, the two Tribes that make up the Elven Pact. This very song inspired the creation of the Deadly Force Power gems ; High Elven magic, and Dark Elven combat prowess.

For the Children

When the portals opened, Orcs and Dwarves came from their respective planets as they were crumbling underneath their feet. Despite Delasphos undergoing torrential blizzards, thunderstorms and volcanic explosions, both Tribes were smiling with relief. No matter how slim, they finally had a chance at survival. Deep inside the caves of the Laughing Peak, they found a place to call home.It sheltered them, and brought them together ; yet something was wrong in the very air. Both Tribes' youngs would start behaving aggressively, as if being posessed. It wasn't long before the elders started hearing them too. 'Destroy'. 'Burn'. 'Kill'. 'Die'. Dark voices would echo in their minds. Only the eldest managed to escape, and made their way south, to the Cihr Mountains. Everyone else succumbed to the dark influence, and with a flame of destruction in their eyes, they ravaged the lands. Villages were burned, women raped and men killed. It took a thirty years of mining and researching the Core of Cihr Mountains for the elders to find a way to weaken the Dark One, and free their youths. A way that cost them their lives. Since then, the lack of all,out aggression from them has allowed for trade routes to be established, especially after being present in the Clover Treaty.Minerals and Gems are flowing outwards, with the cults controlling the distribution, and the Elders providing the supply. Despite that, the rest of the world never forgot their attrocities, and the faction's name of Devil's Seeds has stuck with them.

Using their little hands, they started building miniatures of those places.Toying with materials, scale and technique, they managed to create a result which made Nimelle happy. For a while. What's the point of these places without people in them? So one day, Nimelle had a brilliant idea ; why not have the Vois craft little bodies, and use her powers to implant Wandering Souls into them, reincarnating them so they can fight in the little places the Vois had created. Many believe this is disrespectful to the order of Aeth, Soul Stream, yet no one dares say it. Instead, the Factions offer her little Power Gems and Weapons, and the Federations train her proven.. warriors in their Fighting Style, turning them to full, fledged battle souls, despite their size. For three decades most Orcs and Dwarves were under the influence of the Dark Voice. Then, the voices suddenly stopped ; the Elders had sacrificed themselves to free them of the Dark One's influence. The Tribesmen felt..lost.All their life they had relied on their Elders for guidance, and ever since they came to Delasphos, the Voice had directed them on what to do. That's when those who claimed they could still hear the Voice started appearing, and Cults were born. These Cults are known for blind obedience to their Leader, whom they revere, since she, or he, are their only link to the Voice, which is a shared affinity between the different Cults.Even though, each leader interprets the Voice differently, they all claim it grants them demonic powers. There are many Cults, especially in the small villages spread on the footholds of the Laughing Peak. Some have a handful of people led by someone who was charismatic enough to convince them he hears voices, without having any demonic powers. Others can be large enough to spread throughout the northern slopes of the Cihr Mountains and might even have sworn cultists within the major cities. But as we approach the capital, there is only one cult; the cult of Tharizdun. Leading this cult is Morthos, a powerful orc sorcerer with demonic body parts resembling the great old one his cult reveres. Although he doesn't treat his people harshly, no one dares question his ruling. Those who aren't fond of the status quo of the Devil's Seeds' capital tend to leave, which has turned Ord Vuzdur into the cult's headquarters.

Nimelle's defiance and results, inspired the Arch,Sorcerers to act. It wasn't long before M' Or stabilized itself, the portals closed, and those who came through them were stuck with us on Delasphos, one of the few planets of the Mother Realm that survived the War of Souls. The terraforming brought to the surface the underwater gnomes, a Tribe which was residing peacefully alongside Humans ever since time began, each other's knowledge of the other's existence long, lost in the annals of history. The planet's soil was not the only thing that suffered from the exposure to the soul energy. Many of the forest's animal's , wolves and lizards, birds and dragons, absorbed great amounts of soul energy. Some died instantly while others mutated over the next two decades, giving rise to entirely new species which battled for supremacy in the forests. Aaracocras and Dragonborns were the victors, if one can describe mass extinction as a victory. In the end of it all, Delasphos was no longer , and would never again be , the same; the planet's surface had changed permanently, and there were now 8 Tribes being forced into co,existence.

Most Factions' Tribes are mismatched, but few hate each other as much as those of the Elven Pact. High Elves and Dark Elves, as well as some Half,Elves that were born during the war, make up for most of its citizens. As soon as the portals were open, the elves were prepared. They cast aside their differences, at least temprorarily, and rushed as two separate armies with one common goal; to conquer the world at the other side. And they would have, had the portalled remained open long enough for their entire armies to make it through. They have declared their twin capital cities to be Inl Thenmar and Onf Thenmar, an old human city, split in two. There's also rumors of Wood Elves that made it through the portal, but no one has seen any in the last 50 years. No matter how hard they tried, after the imminent threat disappeared and the Clover Treaty was signed, they could no longer unite under mixed leadership. So they now share a city split in half, and each Tribe abides to their own leaders and laws
