Freedom Planet
September 15, 2013 - GalaxyTrail

Now that Freedom Planet is officially coming to Steam next year, we have created an official group page with all of the nifty features that other Steam games have. If you're excited about the game, please consider joining!

We have been hard at work integrating the game with Steam's interface, and so far it's looking good. In addition to Achievements, Steam users will also have access to Leaderboards for both the best times in each stage and the largest number of crystals collected. We are also looking into commissioning some artwork for Steam's trading card system.

Steam gave developers everywhere a pleasant surprise when they Greenlit a massive number of games at once, and guess what? Freedom Planet was one of them! We must extend a massive Thank You to everyone who helped push us into the Top 100! We couldn't have done it without you.

Another bit of good news that is Multimedia Fusion 2, the software we're using to create the game, has also been Greenlit, which means that they should be providing additional support for us to make sure that Achievements and other Steamy features work.

Progress Update

The 5th stage Jade Creek is halfway done, but we're holding off on the other half for now since it involves some plot-significant events. In the meantime, we have jumped ahead to to the 6th stage in line, Thermal Base.

This underwater base mixes a ton of different elements together that are divided into different sectors. Players will need to unlock new sectors by collecting keycards from minibosses. Aside from that, the enemies are much trickier to deal with, and this is the first time that players will go toe-to-toe with Lord Brevon's troopers.

After Thermal Base, we have just three more stages to go in the main storyline, so we're getting there!

We must extend a big Thank You to everyone who helped pushed us onto Greenlight's top 100 list! Although we still have a long way to go before we make an impression on the higher-ups, this is a huge step forward in our Greenlight quest.

Over the past couple months, we have also been continuing with graphical revamps, stage development, and cutscenes for Adventure Mode. Here are a few screenshots of what's coming up...

We are currently working on the fifth stage, Jade Creek. After its completion, we will have officially reached the halfway mark with the core stages. After all stages are complete, we can start fleshing out the game world of Avalice with cutscenes, hub areas, NPCs, minigames, and more. We're quite eager to start piecing everything together!

We are pleased to announce that our new demo is now available!

While there is no new content, you'll now be able to enjoy widescreen, gorgeous new pixel art, and gameplay tweaks that make your special abilities less tedious and more fun.

Lilac's energy meter now rapidly regenerates on its own - no running necessary! This means that her Dragon Boost and Dragon Cyclone abilities are now an integral part of her moveset. Carol's bike gets an upgrade too; Not only is it more durable, but she can use her Wild Kick while still riding it as well as a Nitro Boost and double-jump to make up for the extra weight.

We are also happy to announce that Mac users will soon be able to play as well; Sometime over the next few days we'll have our first Mac demo ready! Once we do, we'll need your help making sure that everything translates okay onto the new OS.

Right on!

You may have spotted this on our image reel already, but we've got a sneak peek at Fortune Night's boss, Serpentine, and one of his various robotic death machines. Needless to say, as the game progresses the boss battles are going to ramp up in scale and intensity.

In some cases, like this fight, the other player characters will jump in to help you heal or dish out damage to the boss. It's only in special instances, though; You'll be on your own for most of them.

We are also hard at work on revamping the game's graphics, and our pixel artists Matwek and Argyle are doing a wonderful job. Check out what we've done so far!

Carol is the first character who's getting a sprite makeover. Lilac is next, and once we've touched up all of the sprites in Dragon Valley, we should have a new demo ready for the public.
