Human pawns holding the guns just fine, so it is coming from this mod, or so I think. Fasttrack also resulting the same issue.
Fast track CE is not regular CE.
From what I remember, it did all what CE needed to work with Kurin; but I added the apparel compatibility, added the random events for Kurin, and ammunition for their starting scenario.
Don't know if it changed since then, but CE fast track version didn't have that then.
Anyway, you will probably get errors if to use it with fast track, can't confirm if it will work at all.
You can find the mod for the apparel; I don't know if there is one for adding the events to the poll though sadly.
After all, all I did with the patch is make the Kurin have CE "stats", and able to use ammunitions. They can already use weapons and stuff by default.
If you want them to be able to use vanilla appeal, there is a mod for that, and that alone, I believe.

This is a little weird to me as it worked properly before. But heh, as long as it works now...!

Does the issue happens with a clean, brand new save?
Also, you're the first to talk about this issue, so I do not know what to say.
Also; my patch does the exact same thing as this patch does; plus the CE compatibility.
So it shouldn't be an issue. I'll try to dig more on about that but... There really might be something else you're using that's doing this weird thing.

By any chance, do you use CE Fast Track?
And as CE is going to be updated soon to 1.6 with a lot of changes, the people who want to use this main version of CE, will still need patches.
Note that this patch may be removed at a later date, and be directly integrated to CE 1.6. I'll have to check a few things first though.
Also, I did edit the scenario and made it so the Kurin start with ammunition for their assault rifle. it's one of the change I made for CE after all.
