No Elements 11: Momentum

Semi-blindrun (at least 4 years since I've played, took a break starting from late 2019)
Kinda discovered the solution by accident. Dumb that I didn't see it previously. :P
I, and many others it seems, strongly disagree with the below comment however. It's slightly quick, but most people with the dexterity required to play video games in the first place can perform the move even given just a few tries. It's far from a "ninja" move, which mapmakers like Mevious strive to avoid as much as possible.

Difficulty: 3.5/10
Design: 9/10
Enjoyed: 7.25/10

I did not care for this puzzle, due mostly to the final sequence that has to be done in 1 go. That is a ninja acrobatic move that most will tire of trying, even after watching the video.

This is a fantastic puzzle! You can kinda airstrafe under grey columns and hit your head to reduce speed. It seems like a red herring and detracts from the map's elegance (maybe make grey columns higher so you can never bump them).

Cool puzzle, you can skip the first room by shooting a precise portal on the white panel in the glass tube while flying over the glass platform

That was ridiculously cool, another simple puzzle with a surprisingly out-of-the-box solution. Love it!

That to longer than it should have done, again! 11/22

Honestly, I like your maps in this collection the most. This one is great as well! Got stumped a bit on the second part, but managed to figure it out on my own. Very satisfactory one.
StackSmasher789 May 19, 2022 @ 4:22am
Second one needs a bit of quick movement but overall fairly easy
Maelstrom Mar 24, 2022 @ 8:27am
Loved it. Short but sweet.

You had all the makings of a good puzzle, so that was a bit disappointing when it was kind of bad :/

I wish I could've solved this on my own. Sadly, this is another map from Portal Pro (actually two combined, Momentum and Momentum Advanced) and in that mod I solved both of them by waiting for air resistance to slow me down... then I watched the intended solution on YouTube later.

At that time, I didn't know there was a Portal 2 version. Note that waiting for air resistance won't help you here, since the engine works differently. At least that seems to be the case for me.

A very unique map where you have to *reduce* your momentum, which is not commonly seen in flinging maps. Recommended, even if executing the last bit is slightly tricky. ;)

Big fan of the No Elements series. I share the solutions along with some other solve techniques in the video link below. Thanks Mevious

nice idea !

A year later, yet again. Might actually have been even breezier.
Galactic Jack Apr 23, 2019 @ 11:40pm
Clever!
MmmmmmhHHHhhhhhhmmmm Jul 11, 2018 @ 1:34pm
Tried it again one year later. I remembered that I had to reduce my momentum, but not how. I probably had the solution in the back of my head though, 'cause it was fairly breezy.

yay im learning. i got it by myself. good one!
XYHC Apr 18, 2018 @ 2:18pm
Great puzzle! It was pretty easy actually. Had to mess with all the stuffs in the room a couple of times to figure it out :P
bullfrog Feb 26, 2018 @ 11:25am
Clever, but I didn't work it out, looked at the walkthrough :(

Это пока лучшая карта, которую я проходил в этом году

Thanks for the map. My favourite in the series: Elegant design, challenging concept. Great work.

реально неожиданно. спасибо

I would never have figured this one out if I didn't look at the walkthrough. I've NEVER come across a map where you'd have to REDUCE your momentum.
adamu Nov 23, 2016 @ 12:22am
...and got it. That required a method I'd never used before, nice.
adamu Nov 23, 2016 @ 12:12am
Walks into second chamber, *mind blown*. And also, stuck. Going to have to come back to this one I think. :-)
zigzagtenniscoe Aug 28, 2016 @ 4:25pm
One thing tho, on the walls beside the large pit instead of the portalable surface only going up by 1 it go up by 2. Why is that? I even tried using it as a way to solve the test but then I found out the intended way...
zigzagtenniscoe Aug 28, 2016 @ 4:24pm
This one actually took me a while to figure out! Unique in the way that you actually have to control your momentum rather than going full blast. I was stuck in the second chamber for a while because I couldn't figure out how to get the momentum I needed without being in a place where I couldn't shoot anything decent... but then I realized there is in fact spaces where you can get the original momentum from dropping into the large pit and keep it, these are the portalable floors with no portalable ceiling above them, That was my missing key, I'm glad I found it now. Very nice puzzle, I honestly didn't think these could get much harder but I guess they could! Forces you to think about all the spaces you can use at all..
Dr_Sensei Jun 18, 2016 @ 8:00pm
Love the puzzles you do, I'm about 30-40% successful without having to look on a Mevious puzzle; very nicely done.
Petutski May 20, 2016 @ 2:58pm
Excellent demonstration of controlled momentum. Played this map two years ago and called it "ninja not logic". I take that back now as once the logic was planned for, the portal placement was pretty easy. Show what a little experience can do. Thanks!

Nice, as usual. I think this is the only room where I've seen this momentum.
Pamsy Dec 12, 2015 @ 9:46pm
Terrific! Like the invention of negative numbers. Hint: Don't hit the ceiling, go through the ceiling.
Ultimaximus Dec 6, 2015 @ 12:34pm
There are so few maps where you have too much momentum and you need to reduce it, rather than vice versa
don caballero Aug 23, 2015 @ 5:59pm
So great...

Great No elements test again. This is a great series of maps. This map no different. Thumbs up!

excellent chamber!
lfairban Jun 8, 2014 @ 1:32pm
This one is really tricky. It took me a while to exicute the solution once I figured it out. I did quick saves while swinging throught floor portals.
HeliGungir Jun 6, 2014 @ 8:21pm
I managed a ninja way (placing a ground and an angle portal in a split second) before I realized the easy way shown by Metzger Ben's video: http://youtu.be/Hn8-zgPgd8M

Then I beat it by pit -> bunnyhop across the room -> place portals for the jump
Then by pit -> vertical jump -> airstrafe to plaform
^_^
tu7650x May 26, 2014 @ 8:53pm
Brilliant, as usual. The hardest so far in terms of reflexion required to solve it. Totally kicked my ass for a while but finally solved it. Loved it.

PS: nowhere near ninja.... You just have to think and the solution is not hard to execute once you figure it out.
Petutski Mar 23, 2014 @ 12:08pm
Very cool.... but not logic....ninja.
7uk454n Mar 7, 2014 @ 10:17am
genius. took me a long while to solve that 2nd part. momentum!!!!
stormsend Feb 25, 2014 @ 2:52pm
I liked it. Once you figure out the physics, it's a snap. Of course that's easier said than done. Thanks.
«[ČĻĻ]» pino Jan 24, 2014 @ 8:20am
Solved it like ken.roberts. Nice map, but not one of my favorite ones. Thanks.
luckylluck2 Jan 19, 2014 @ 12:27pm
amazing! first time i overshot something !
MetaMagi Jan 15, 2014 @ 6:21pm
Solved this, but I have no idea if I did it in the intended way. It felt a bit glitchy, the way I did it, involving weird game physics near portals.
