This is a recreation of the Heydon Pavilion as featured in the excellent 99% Invisible podcast.[99percentinvisible.org] In order to get the full effect, I highly recommend listening to the episode before visiting the environment.

This otherworldly structure was designed by Joseph Kinnebrew for his friends Rita and Peter Heydon. Over time, the location has become a secret hangout spot for some of the local teens, much to the vexation of its owners. The pavilion was given the nickname “Heyoon” after some visitors saw the words “Heydon Pavilion” etched in a glass plaque at the top of the stairs and mistook the “D” for an “O”.

Out of respect for the privacy of the Heydons, the location of the "real-life" pavilion is kept secret. However, with this virtual recreation, you can now visit Heyoon yourself, and even bring along your own set of friends. It is a virtual sanctuary for your serenity and enjoyment. As always, please be respectful of the structure and to whomever you may meet there.

Hey Alex! I saw your tweet & the comment you left here and just wanted to let you know that I appreciated your kind words.

I’m glad you like the environment! The Heyoon episode has always been very special to me. Working on this project even helped me while I was going through some post-college anxiety after graduation.

BTW, I enjoy your and Emmanuel’s show as well! ReplyAll actually recently ran a story I suggested about the webpage that will delete itself when people stop posting on it. Emmanuel did a great job reporting & I learned a few things about it that I hadn’t known.

If you’re considering getting VR, I’d say go for it! There are some amazing experiences available. Some of my favorites aren’t even games per se, but interactive experiences that wouldn’t be possible in other mediums (be sure to check out the one where you can enter a Van Gogh painting!).

Feel free to let me know if do, I’d love to hear your impressions of seeing Heyoon in VR!

Hi, Aaron, this is Alex Goldman. I was googling this story for a friend who had never heard it before when I stumbled on this. It made me kind of emotional. You somehow really captured the spirit of the place. There are a couple pictures of it online here and there (https://i.pinimg.com/564x/d9/77/dc/d977dc11b99e2b75e0ea2157803e9ef2.jpg) but it's really impressive that you managed to capture it pretty much exactly as it looked. This might be the thing that makes me bite the bullet and get a VR headset.

Yours,
Alex
