The Avid & Apathy is an action-focused singleplayer adventure for both original Neverwinter Nights and the Enhanced Edition.

BACKGROUND
The year is 2086. Mankind is locked in a global war with the mythans, mythological creatures come to life. As the war enters its 16th year, a peaceful solution seems more like a pipedream. Instead, the war itself has become commercialized. At the center of this economy are a new breed of warriors who utilize magic and martial arts instead of conventional firearms. Answering to no army or country, these renegade fighters have become the rock stars of our era. With no unifying banner between them, the public has dubbed them "Nomads".

You are one such Nomad, a promising young recruit in a group of established veterans. What begins as a simple mission becomes a desperate quest of self-discovery, where powerful agencies work against you and the greatest enemies you face are your own demons...


PLANNED FEATURES
  • Engage in massive battles through globe-hopping missions, some which take place in real-world locations.
  • Assemble and command a rock-band-like group of fighters with complex moods and personalities.
  • Combine medieval swords and modern firearms with over 50 unique weapons, including grenade launchers.
  • Build up your reputation to gain corporate sponsorships and more challenging missions.
  • Spend your fortune on upgrades for your fully-customizable home base, the Hideout.
  • Define your character with various backgrounds and even a nationality.
  • Grow stronger with each kill through the game-changing Adrenaline system.

This is an extremely early alpha of the module, and currently exists largely to get feedback on the direction of the gameplay mechanics. A large number of planned features have not yet been implemented, the story is not yet complete, and some gameplay glitches may also occur. Admittedly, I'm mostly sharing the mod at this stage just to take a bit of a breather from all the work I've been putting into it, and to try to generate some constructive criticism to get out of the "echo chamber" effect.

As the mod is still in early alpha, combat has not yet been adequately balanced. Save often, and there's no shame in turning on God Mode.

FAQ
Do I need to play the previous module "July Anarchy Prologue" in order to play The Avid & Apathy?
No. Although the two mods share the same setting, this is a completely different story. While the events of July Anarchy Prologue do come into play, they are explained when necessary. Avid & Apathy is a massive expansion of the concepts and mechanics in July Anarchy Prologue, which is why I have chosen not to share the previous mod on Steam.

This mod uses the D20 Modern haks. Does it use the D20 class system as well?
No, the default NWN classes are used, meaning you can import characters from basic NWN campaigns with no conflicts.

Does this mod support multiplayer?
Sadly, no. It was originally intended to support multiplayer, but some features simply wouldn't work with multiple players. If there is demand, I would consider an alternative multiplayer mod.


WARNINGS
  • A human, elf or half-elf character, age 18-35 and at level 1 to 5 is recommended.

  • This module will make changes to whichever character you use, including changing subrace and eliminating their existing equipment permanently.

  • This module was not designed or tested using the Hardcore Rules mode. Since the game deliberately breaks some D&D rules, I would not advise any player attempt to complete the module on Hardcore mode.

  • As of this version, the plot cannot advance past part 2 of the "Chasing Shadows" quest. A mission related to this quest will be available for selection, but accepting this mission will start one of the standard missions, not a story mission.

This is such a great mod. utilizes d20 modern in a way that makes it look good and the characters and dialogue are interesting. the gameplay is great too, its basicaly a capture the flag open battlefield that works surprisingly well for neverwinter Nights, something I think as a modder we can all be inspired by.

Update for those who are wondering: Yes I'm still working on the mod. This is taking place alongside some huge (and positive) changes to my career, so I've had very little time to dedicate to projects like this. Earliest I could see the next update coming is mid-Fall.

My ambitions for the mod have changed lately. I'm developing a bespoke in-engine animation system that will allow for more on-screen action and better interactivity with objects and the environment. I'm also aiming to utilize the new NUI features to eliminate text menus and to keep the player notified of their objectives during missions (EX: during conquests, you'll see the status of each command zone on top of the screen). I'd also like to use original artwork wherever possible. There's nearly a hundred custom portraits going into the next update and I'm exploring options for custom modules and texture replacements.

@raserenus There was basically a full year where I thought the mod was completely broken, and only recently discovered EE introduced an issue where running a module with the toolset open results in game-breaking performance issues for some reason.

So development is back in full swing, or at least as much as I can handle with other projects and a full-time job.

Is this still being worked on?
The systems are really well done and the story is interesting so far.
But no content updates for nearly two years, and no status update for around six months is a little worrying.

Without a doubt one of the most interesting modules I've tried, although I couldn't complete any beginner mission because everything killed me. I probably didn't made my character right, there are quite a few skill changes, and for some reason you have access to Epic Feat Weapon Focus / Spec at low levels.

A few other changes coming:
-The Skirmish missions that have been teased will be replaced with a new mission type, Demolition, which involves destroying an enemy base or structure with the help of a friendly army.
-The Vengeance Seeker background will no longer have a "favored enemy" ability as this is simply too redundant if the player is a Ranger. Instead Vengeance Seekers will get a "Cry of Vengeance" ability allowing them to instantly trigger an Adrenaline Rush once per day without drugs.
-Actual GUI elements that track your current Adrenaline and mission goals so you don't need to constantly refer to the text box.
-The office computer will have interactive tutorials for things like Adrenaline and party management.

So to anybody who may be concerned about future updates (and rightfully so as it's been a while), I've been dealing with an issue for the past six months where an unknown factor is causing massive AI Update Time Overflows on nearly all pathfinding calls, crippling the game during battle scenarios. There's very little official documentation on this error but I'm working to root out the cause, or roll back development if absolutely necessary. I slacked hard on documenting changes lately, so it's difficult for me to list all changes that would be in this new version, but a lot of it is going toward reducing overall jank, adding new missions and a feat-based method of issuing commands to your party members.
