Messerschmitt Me 410 Hornet

The Messerschmitt Me 410 “Hornisse” or “Hornet” was a German heavy fighter and Schnellbomber (fast bomber). It was developed from the Me 210, and was an improvement over many of the 210s shortcomings. Though well liked by its crews, the Me 410 ultimately proved inferior to Allied single engine fighters of the time. It often served as a nighttime bomber and as a daytime bomber destroyer. Although close to 1200 units were produced, the aircraft was phased out before the end of the war to be replaced with more capable fighters.
