How to put out a fire (properly)
Hi. This guide is extremely old, not only has the game significantly changed since I made this, and even back then this guide was AWFUL. I literally built square wooden houses 3 tiles from each other with NOTHING else

1. Firefighting
Go to your Zones/Areas menu from the Architect tab, you should see "expand home area", encompass the fire in this zone and your settlers will try to put it out.

2. Controlled firefighting
Do what you did last time, but now instead of encompassing the fire in home zone, only place it in areas you dont want the fire to spread. This increases the efficiency of firefighting and help to keep specific areas safe. Heck, place one tile at a time if you have to.

3. Plant cutting
If a fire is on a tile which has grass, trees, flowers, etc. then you can use the "cut plants" order to cut the plant and instantly extinguish the fire.
How to prepare for a fire
More Plant Cutting
Cut plants around your base, as if you were making a trench or moat surrounding it. This makes it so that the fire has nothing to burn off of, and as such it will need to be 3-5 tiles wide. MAKE SURE that you only do this when you see a fire starting. If you cut them preemptively as there is no fire, the plants will just grow back and you will have wasted time.

Nothing is fireproof (except stone)
Keep building your base out of wood, as steel will set on fire too. If you're willing to build your walls out of stone, stone is fireproof.

Prioritize Researching FirePoppers
Look, I know you want stonecutting to start getting rid of all these chunks, but if you can, make sure firepoppers are the research you aim for first. You have no idea how much they help. Cause at some point you're gonna get raided by like 12 people and half of them are setting fire to that farm that you "promise to move away from the bedrooms at some point"
Preventing Fire Hazards
Yeah, it's like real life
  • Make sure your buildings are 4-5 tiles apart from each other
  • Fill in that gap with Paved Tiles
  • Keep all flammable items like benches, flowerpots, lights, close to the walls. Keep them there to stop the fire jumping across the gap.
  • Keep your batteries FAR from the rest of your base
  • Make sure the floor around your battery building is paved so that they burn themselves out and nothing else

just surround your buildings with cheap wooden floors, suprisingly it doesnt burn through

I thought that was a given, but I'll add it to the guide along with some other things

Yeah you're right steel is far too expensive for its qualities but stone walls are completely fireproof and buildings can be made fireproof by giving them stone floors.

Another thing you left out are foam poppers that extinguish fires within their areas automatically and are unlocked by research.

Steel still isn't worth it, but I didn't know about the stone walls being fireproof. When I saw that they didn't give a beauty bonus I thought they were pointless. Thanks!

But stone blocks are fireproof and steel only has a 20% flammability so burns slower than wood
