Rodas Cross is now a SUPER NES game!
1. Increased resolution:
No more 240x160 cropped resolution from the GBA. The new resolution will be 256x244. The standard resolution for the SNES.

2. Increased party member capacity:
The increased resolution brings an unique positive side effect: 3 character party in now possible! Just like in Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3!

A 3 party member game was difficult in the GBA, mainly because of screen HUD space, and because game action will get "too crammed" in the tiny screen.

3. Multiplayer:
Now a multiplayer game is a possibility! All the initial tests had been successful in this regard.

4. More buttons:
More buttons allow for better input options. For example, now there could be a dedicated "run button" (which addresses the "this game seems slow" issue some had with the initial pitch).

5. It's what I always wanted to do:
I always had in mind the SNES hardware and games when creating Rodas Cross. At the time for me the GBA was the most accessible retro console to program for. Things changed as I became more comfortable with the 65816, the SNES main CPU language. Today creating a SNES game it's a reality, as I had managed to convert about 80% of the GBA engine and assets to SNES.

The rest is a matter of time.

解説
GENERAL
  • Action-RPG: Gameplay, feel and aesthetics reminiscent of classics like Ys, Secret Of Mana and A Link to the Past.

  • 16 Bit Style: All sprites, music and gameplay strictly conform to the 16-bit era of gaming.

  • SNES specs: The core of the game is an actual GBA SNES rom. The Steam version will run as close as possible as the original does in hardware.

SYSTEM
  • Day/Night System: The day/night cycle affects properties like monster stats, story events and spells available.

  • Ringmenu System: Swiftly choose menus, items and weapons.

  • AI Action System: Fine tune your ally's AI, not unlike Final Fantasy XII's Gambit System. Choose from a variety of actions and turn them on/off at will.

GAMEPLAY
  • Items: Multiple items to replenish HP, MP, and to remove status effects.

  • Weapons: Multiple weapons, each with their own unique stats and attributes. Each character can equip two at once!

  • Magics: Multiple spells available, each unique and useful in battle.

  • Monsters: Each monster has it's own stats and a unique AI behavior.

I like the art style and animations. The circular UI is nice as well. Definitely would like to see more actual gameplay though, and neither the whole trailer, or the screenshots shows a whole lot of it.

I guess I'll be "that guy"; to be the one in saying the resolution doesnt bother me. I dont mind it at all; my monitor is a brick anyway.

But god damn, everything moves waaaaaay too slow; the characters, the combat; everything is slow; where is the action in this "action RPG"? Also, was the token moronic AI ally character that only gets in the way and never helps really necessary?

The visuals are good but thats its only saving grace. The gameplay itself moves far too sluggishly to be considered engaging. Speed it up; make it feel like an ACTION-rpg as you claim it to be. Until then, I'll pass.
