Thank you so much for the "TL;DR" at the top, that was just what I needed.
The game still crashes about once every hour or two, but it starts to lag beforehand, so I can pretty consistently save beforehand and then pop back into it.
I've also seen that if you turn off auto-save, that can help to conserve memory as well, so I might give the two things a try together and see if that increases the time before crashing even more.

Used the method described from 30, which took me to 0100
That line has text PE..dt, NOT PE..L contained in your examples.
It DOES NOT have 0F 01 in the line below.
Searched for 0F 01 in Hex Values, gave 126 hits (not sure if that's appropriate).
None of them had PE above them.
Did it the other way. Searched PE as text string. 46 hits.
None of them had 0F 01 below them.
