Browsing the workshop and installing mods as a player
First click the 'mods' button from the games main menu.

Then select the tab that says 'steam workshop'

Then click the 'visit workshop' button to launch the steam overlay to the democracy 3 workshop. here you can see all of the available mods, and then click on 'subscribe' to any mod you are interested in. Then return to the game by closing the overlay...

Now click on the 'fresh content' button and the game will connect to steam, and download and install your mods.

If you now click on the mods browser you should see the mods you have selected listed on the left. you can enable and disable them at will, or if you really want, you can delete them entirely.

If you ever want to update your mods, or get back ones you have deleted, you can go back to the steam workshop tab and click on 'refresh content'.
Creating and uploading a new mod
First, you need to create all of the files you mod may need. To do this, you probably need to read the modding guides on the democracy 3 website here:
Modding guides.[www.positech.co.uk]
Once you have done this, you will have a folder full of files for your mod, in the same folder as 'Democracy3.exe' You should also create a new preview graphic for your mod, in jpg format, and save it in the same folder as Democracy3.exe, just for now...

Now go to the mods button on the game's main menu...

And select the 'create mod' tab...

Now fill out this form. The author is whatever name you want to be listed as in peoples mod-browsers. Enter a title and descriptuion for your mod, then browse with the 'path' text box to get the name of your mod folder. This must be in the same folder as 'Democracy3.exe'

Then you need to select a preview image. This has to be a jpg in that same location. Once this is done, click on submit to workshop, and wait for the fiels to upload. if you have a large mod, this may take a while.
Once the uplaod is complete, the workshop page will open in the steam overlay. it may take a few minutes for your mod to show up, so please be patient.

Updating an existing mod you have published
To do this, click the mods button on the games main menu...

Then select the 'update your mod' button to go the update screen...

There will be a slight pause whilst the game populates the list on the left hand side, of all of the mods you have submitted to the workshop. Click on the entry for the mod you wish to update, and you will see its title and description filled in on the right.

You now will have to fill in the author, path to the mods folder and preview image again, even if none of those have changed. (sorry!).
Once this is done, just clcik on submit update and your new files and data will be published to the workshop!

Can you upload steamworks mods to other games? You can email me at cliff AT positech dot co dot uk with the files inside \my documents\my games\democracy 3\debug. They may help diagnose the problem.

that sounds very much like a firewall issue.

Hi! I done a couple of mods and they work ok, but the problem is that I seem to have a problem uploading them to Steam. I do all the steps described in this guide but it still ends up with 0 kb of files uploaded. Neither does updating the mod help. I get no error message when uploading. On the contrary. Preview image and Description shows but not the actual files. I have the files in a folder named after the country I made. Located in the Democracy3 folder. Thus the path I set is to that country folder when creating a mod. Any suggestions?
