Stronger FFB. For T300 & other wheels
By Grumps
I have been trying for ages to get Dirt 4 to feel a little bit more like Dirt Rally in terms of FFB. Dirt 4 in comparison feels rather muted in terms of feedback. Well i have been messing around and may have found a way to increase the feeling of FFB in the game.

**PLEASE NOTE : I have no idea if this is ok to use online so use at your own risk ** I have used this online in a few races and no problems so far.

Go to where Dirt4 is installed : steam/steamapps/common/dirt4/input/devices

You will see a file called "device_defines" - Open this with "Notepad"

In this file you will see a list of wheels and there supposed ffb values. As seen here :

https://gyazo.com/056b56179a6ea738cb3e1c20bed9b009

Find the particular wheel you use, so in my case the "tm_t300_rs"

You will see listed to the right "ffb_friction" & "ffb_force" - Try increasing these values. This is what mine is set to : https://gyazo.com/af4303a9f1a4188f076169c1004f254d

After you have changed the value, save and close but also set it to "read only"

And these are my ingame settings (subject to change), im still tweaking : https://gyazo.com/cfbe76e30d09c66146e9180f21802d3e

For me it has definately improved the FFB in game and made everything a bit stronger, its not quite near the level of Dirt Rally but its a start at least.

Hopefully it'll give you guys a heads up and something to work on and hopefully improve the feeling for you.

** This is work in progress**

After some trial and error: ffb_friction="1.7" ffb_force="1.3"/> then setting ffb to default then turning down wheel friction to 25-45%(i prefer 42 - it is the meaning of life the universe and everything, but i digress...) it sstarts out super unrealisticly light and gets exponentialy heavyer but I can feel and control the car with out feeling like im driving a toy car that sea-saws back and forth.
For me the problem usaly was the rear end felt numb and would often break away with out warning , I could get closer by loosining the car anti-roll bars but this way is more global.

Yeah it definately makes it feel 'better' but it still needs work. Ive stopped playing Dirt4 now until we have a patch or two. While the game is ok for the most part it certainly lacks the soul and panache of Dirt Rally. It feels boring to drive rather than edge-of-your-seat like Dirt Rally.

This improved Dirt 4 to a playable state. Sad Codies didn't release the game with this.
Can confirm settings work for G29 also.

I can comfirm this helps a lot with the detail from the suspension and weight transfer, for anyone using a G27 as I am, you will need to add the ffb_friction & ffb_force "3" (3 is my setting which is much better than default) I have not added any extra friction. The complete line looks like this:

<device id="{C29B046D-0000-0000-0000-504944564944}" name="lg_g27" priority="100" type="wheel" ffb_friction="1.0" ffb_force="3.0" />

ffb_friction="1.0" is the default value, this probably could be adjusted as well just haven't gotten round to doing it, yet.

I've been using modified the "device_defines" file for a while now with no problems.
Final point when making a backup of the "device_defines" file, make sure to put it inside another folder or change file type so you only have .xml file in the "devices" folder. I found if I had both "xml" files the game would get confused.

Thanks Grumpy for sharing.
