Description
Fossil Ridge is an extra large 6K map with no-industries. Fossil Ridge is located in Gunnison National Forest Colorado. The game-map has 25 cities scattered between mountain ranges.
*This map is extra large and you need to turn-on big maps in your settings.lua file. experimentalMapSizes = true
Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\"userid"\446800\local - in that local folder is the settings.lua file..use Notepad to open the settings.lua file, then change the false to true...save file, done.
Best played with the Vegetation Increase and Industry placement mods.

If you click on the top link for Lowell's Workshop, you can see the whole collection so far. South America build-2 is about to be published it is 6k x 4k.

I have a couple 6K maps out... 6145 x 6145. Hmm I have not played the game with no growing cities. In that case, for scenery setups say for video, one could build on a 16,385 x 2049 or 3073. I am working on a 16k x 2k map which would work. The max mega map size would be 32,769 long by 1 or 2k wide...if the game would load such a map.

I might try an 8k x 2-4k map and test it. Myself I like long rail lines with tons of scenery.

I see, but I am playing sandbox with no growing living cities, placing buildings without function so I dont have problems with runnin it. I thought heithmaps only support 4k maps so I was interested how you get this up to 6k.

The idea is...the larger the map, the less cities it should have on it. This game may never be able to run larger maps without issues.

This map is 6145 x 6145 or 6K...8k would be 8193 x 8193 square. The game becomes unstable when you add too many towns as they grow and spawn more units...then as the player adds trains, cars etc. it has to write down and track the numbers like mad...hence the game starts to stagger or jitter during game play. Even on a high end machine. Cities can only be placed so far apart, so an 8k map would have way too many cities for anyone to fill-up and play. It's one reason the Developers turned off maps larger than 4k or 4097 square. Now...if this were Trainz I can make a layout that goes on forever...but not in Transport or Train Fever. I am afraid we are stuck with these 4k maps for long game-play without much lag.
So yes it is possible to make 8k maps...but they get unstable pretty fast and most people like to build set-ups that get real huge.

Not sure about using the game's auto-spawn-industries on a 6k map...I had no plans for it as yet.
