Some fun facts about our development & game
We made an action-packed video game such the good old times in Sega Master System video game console. While we developed, we took care investigating about the platform features with the purpose of crafting a faithful retro experience, by means of modern tools under the Game Maker Studio 2 framework. Therefore, not only code was the main issue, but pixel-art and sound was a top requirement that involved a customised work to achieve the goal of making a reliable Master System experience, with its own color palette and Texas Instruments SN76489 sound chip.

We did plenty of work by polishing a technical demo that features main menu, text boxes, cinematic introduction, a fully action platform level design and its tied final boss and, lastly, end game screen with credits. Finally, for enhancing a true experience we implemented a shader with a CRT look that strengthen a TV mode like on a real cathode ray tube TV such us in the end of 80s and mid '90s.

Story Synopsis

The plot is set on the daybreak of Roman invasion of the Iberian Peninsula on ancient age, circa 198b.C., beyond the Hispania Citerior, in the land of Iltirta fatherland of Iltireskos, the Roman legions have advance steadily subduing any resistance they have found on their way, plundering all the villages and hamlets.
They approach the core of Atanagrum, Iltirta capital city, spreading terror among the indigenous who don't find consolation in their gods, nor heroes ready to expel them as Atabels made in the past, well-known as Indibil among Romans and Carthaginians.
In this violent turbulent scenario with no mercy, our main character called Balkar, an skilled warrior coming back to his home after a hunter departure, will found his hamlet fodder of fire and its inhabitants slaughtered at the hands of a Roman legion. One of them is his brother Luxinio, who in the last moments before last breath make Balkar to pledge that he will recover Luxinio's daughter, Himilce, kidnapped by Roman Proconsul Marcus.

We developed this as part of a final project for our technical education degree and a coming expo in our city. We want to share our work as a free gift to Steam Community, please look forward to this game... and help Balkar to take revenge, rescue Himilce or who knows what... it's up to you!

Current Stage

In the next days we will upload a free technical demo to download. We want to grow the game with you, that means we still need to finish more things, but we want to hear you!

About language

We aren't English native speakers, our game has Spanish dialogues but main menu and HUD are in English. We will make available full English dialogues onward (if you want to help us with grammar, you're welcome! Or even other languages!). This means a selectable language option in "settings".

@TheClassicHuggles many thanks for your useful feedback, I fixed the scrolling and showed a demo to our evaluting tribunal with it. By the way, we projected more weapons (and made pixel art for this) but we run out of time to deliver the project, that's why there is only the first weapon that Balkar has ("Pugio" a type of knife). If we still has the chance to develop in a far-off future, we'll implement more weapons.

As long as the game is free, and we haven't got greenlighted, we'll keep Balkar as technical free demo in other sites. Certainly, Steam community was an incentive to develop further our student project to a really final product. At this moment in time, I guess we cannot afford Steam Direct, but keep an eye, we will publish our technical demo this week.

Well, Greenlight finally ends, and so the votes. I want to thank you all of you, people that has supported us, with feedback or other words. First of all I wanted to adress this.

I took seriously what you suggested @"Unexpected Jihad" and @CooperTeam, in fact I've contated with SEGA by 3 different ways with all my good faith, but I haven't been answered yet, just silence, about taking the proper steps if they might be annoyed to fix it, considering that our game is free, pure nostalgia for SMS and in middle of a student framework project.

Alright I'm gonna come out and talk about some problems I am having with the game. The music is way too repetitive and doesn't sound pleasing to the ear (at least not mine). The attack range for the character is unacceptable, even in the gameplay video it looks like it's better to just run from enemies as opposed to fighting them. The jumping feels stiff (granted I haven't played the game so i can't say for certain). And I see that you did parallax scrolling for the background which I appreciate the detail, however you have it reversed. When you're moving right you want the mountains to move left, it gives the illusion of a moving background that looks realistic. But I will give you guys credit, this was done in a short amount of time, for a school project, to be made like a SMS game, and all of it done by three people.

I like the idea, but I see some lawsuits based on your "MEGA" logo. Looks too much like "SEGA".
